Muller's total number of own goals
[edit]I have a found a print source that puts Gerd's total number of own goals in professional football at over 1000, it has every game, game result and date listed.
Kleines Dickes Müller?
[edit]Is this nickname really widespread enough to be in the opening paragraph? I must have watched dozens of football matches featuring Gerd Müller, back when I was growing up in Germany, and I cannot recall this nickname ever being used. (As opposed to "Bomber der Nation", which was very widely used.)--24.82.175.172 22:10, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
This nickname was given to Müller by his coach Zlatko Čajkovski--ARN, 2 September 2006
But it´s a real nickname, Bomber der Nation ist only more popular! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.15.197.213 (talk) 18:30, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm way too young to ever have seen a match with Gerd Müller, but EVEN I know this nickname. Everybody in Germany knows it. It's kind of an aphorism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.11.13.95 (talk) 11:56, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
It´s a real nickname. Ask some (german) people, you will discover that "kleines dickes Müller" is a normal nickname für him. --91.15.254.159 (talk) 14:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but the translation is wrong: thick means stupid (his nickname isn't "kleines dummes Müller, is it?). Correct would be "little fat Müller" (I think "little" is a better translation than "small" in the context). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.204.245.30 (talk) 14:12, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Ronaldo
[edit]"...when it was broken by Brazil's Ronaldo on June 27, 2006 playing against Ghana Republic Team, who has played in four World Cups and scored in three."
The four World Cups being 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2006. But in the 1994 Cup (held in the USA) he never played -- he stayed in the bench all games. Shouldn't it read "played and scored in three World Cups"? JCCyC 22:11, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
"played" in association football includes bench appearances. You could say "was selected" or "represented Brasil" in 4 cups, although he was an unused substitute in..."
note: he's in the team picture, and he got a medal... Billyshiverstick (talk) 06:54, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Der Bomber
[edit]I changed the opening sentence with Gerd "Der Bomber" Müller because he is known by this alias, and because his full name is already listed to the right. This is good for those who wish to know his nick name and full name (for full name they just glance on the list to the right).
Possible Incorrect Dates
[edit]There are a few possible discrepencies with dates in this article. In the book "Gary Lineker's Golden Boots" (Hodder&Stoughton 1998, ISBN 0340708468) Müller himself comments that he joined TSV Nordlingen ages 14 - that would make it 1959 or 1960 at the latest. Furthermore he says he was signed for FC Bayern Munich in 1963 (late in the year) --Timetrial (talk) 14:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
International goals - who needs each goal on a new line?
[edit]Each game can have a single line, with the serial No. of the goal(s) and the total, just like the Gary Lineker list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Lineker#International_goals What do you think? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 18:28, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Internal inconsistency
[edit]The article states "According to FIFA, only Ali Daei and Pelé have scored more international goals.", however, the article for Top international association football goal scorers by country lists 6 persons with higher international goal tallies. Can someone with more expertise verify and correct as needed? --Legis (talk - contribs) 17:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
The End of his career, 33 more goals
[edit]Look at German Wikipedia, he played from 1981to82 for the Smiths Brothers Lounge and got 33 goals in 42 games. Please someone add this.
Goals in a calendar year nonsense
[edit]The idea that there is anything like an official record for goals in a calendar year across all competitions is nonsense, and it features prominently in this article. The Messi article got reworked to put his "breaking the record" in context and to place far less emphasis on it, and I think we should do the same here. At most, the article should say something along the lines of "Neither FIFA nor any league or national organization tracks records for goals in all competitions, but the Guinness Book of World Records recognized Mueller's 1972 season as the record for goals in a calendar year, although Godfrey Chitalo scored more goals in 1972." Somewhat ironic, isn't it, that Mueller's total wasn't even the most for the calendar year 1972, much less of all time? Rks13 (talk) 13:04, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
good point. I think you should delete it, but clarify away Billyshiverstick (talk) 07:11, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
