I am not very pleased with the categories here, but they are the best. Grigoriou was born in what was then the Ottoman Empire, but was ethnically Greek. This area became part of an at least semi-independent Bulgaria when he was a child. It was a overwhelmingly Greek community he came from, but it was not part of the country of Greece. Our Greek categorizes are for nationals of the country of Greek. Grigoriou we have no evidence was ever a national of Greece, and no evidence he ever was in Greece except for to participate in the Olympics. Before at least 1908 (maybe 1912) there were no national teams at the Olympics. National associations have at times been retroactively assigned to the 1896, 1900 and 1904 competitors, but they did not exist at the time and have often been retroactively assigned based on realities on the ground later that do not reflect realities at the time. Grigoriou was not a national of Greece as far as the sources actually say, so he should not be in categories meant for nationals of Greece.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:21, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
