Question

[edit]

Is this just about humans... or is it more general than that? JJJamal 23:32, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The concept of gene-environment correlation is not specific to humans, but may be more relevant to humans than other species because humans are more active in selecting and and shaping their environments than other organisms. My own background is in psychiatry and human genetics, and the current content reflects these biases. --T0mpr1c3 13:37, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very true, this article does reflect a human bias but could be made more general with only minimal substitutions of word choice; the content is sound. Many organisms will create an environments specifically tailored to their offspring's well-being (ant colonies, nests) or simply bring them into one which is favorable(a pride of lions, a herd cape buffalo).--AlsWissen (talk) 19:09, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

POV sentence under definition

[edit]

"Of principal interest are the causal mechanisms, which indicate genetic control over environmental exposure" could be taken to mean that all causal mechanism related to this subject...

"indicate genetic control over environmental exposure".

I surgest adding the word "those" in place of "the". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.80.103.44 (talk) 15:21, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citations list useful for updating this article and related articles

[edit]

You may find it helpful while reading or editing articles to look at a bibliography of Anthropology and Human Biology Citations, posted for the use of all Wikipedians who have occasion to edit articles on human genetics and related issues. I happen to have circulating access to a huge academic research library system at a university with an active research program in these issues (and to other academic libraries in the same large metropolitan area) and have been researching these issues sporadically since 1989. You are welcome to use these citations for your own research. You can help other Wikipedians by suggesting new sources through comments on that page. It will be extremely helpful for articles on human genetics to edit them according to the Wikipedia standards for reliable sources for medicine-related articles, as it is important to get these issues as well verified as possible. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 01:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure if this page was copied from Link redacted or the other way around. But the two are clearly very similar with regard to their text and phrasing. IntoThinAir (talk) 16:55, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If that page can be believed, it was written 8 October 2018. This article hasn't had any major changes after that (e.g., see last revision before October 2018), so I think it's probably safe to assume that page copied this one. -Ferahgo the Assassin (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I wasn't sure since the page doesn't mention Wikipedia and I didn't see the site listed on WP:MIRRORS. IntoThinAir (talk) 03:40, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

COI Edit Request

[edit]

I have added the following text, which refers to a publication I am associated with. Can a volunteer please check if this addition is permissable?

"Higher PGS for mental disorders such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD have also been found to be associated with higher reported exposures to stressful life events such in adults with depression." Jjcrouse (talk) 01:42, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide reliable sources for the additions. LizardJr8 (talk) 02:45, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies - the citation did not come through in the copied text.
Reliable sources are:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26526099/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38575805/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30756089/ Jjcrouse (talk) 02:56, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These sources need to be formatted using the citation style that the article already uses, including the exact page numbers where the confirming information resides. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, these types of formatting needs are generally expected to be performed before the request is submitted for review.
