Is this the same as Gandhian engineering?
[edit]I don't know much about this topic, but was wondering if frugal and gandhian engineering are the same. If they are, shall we consider merging the articles? If they are not, can we add more detail to the article about the difference?--Hermajesty21 (talk) 15:03, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hello,
- I wrote the Gandhian Engineering article some weeks ago, with several sources too. We made a quite similar job, on what seems the same concept, and so, needing one article only (+1 merging). I was doing the merging here, in Frugal Engineering, while I saw in Ghosh (2007) : "More than a year after coining the term “frugal engineering” to describe Indian engineers, Carlos Ghosn [...]".
- I'm quite confuse.
- Is Frugal Engineering a general concept -> merge Gandhian Engineering within Frugal, as a local case.
- Or is Frugal Engineering a new name for what do Indians Engineers -> then, let's use the word that Indian Engineers use themselves -> Merge the both in Gandhian Engineering.
- I will think about that I state my opinion later.Yug (talk) 06:21, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- PS: I converted the both article to the same reference style, so it's technically ready and easy to merge. Secondly, please give your opinion on the matter ;) Yug (talk) 06:02, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Okay :) I don't really have a strong opinion! I agree it's best to merge them for now as there is no clear difference between the topics. I don't mind where they are merged to, it's not clear which name is better.--Hermajesty21 (talk) 15:10, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

- The general concept is indeed old, I think about war time Engineering, the AK47, some Russian tanks, which were also famous for their frugality. / The Indian Engineering seems here to have one difference. It is aimed to mass consummation, to the general, free market.
- -.- that's quite well balanced. Yug (talk) 08:02, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Ok. Uneed to wait so long so I mainly made a random choice for the host article. I believe that this way is one inch better, and since we are merely 2 for this issue, I think the choice will not be controversial. This merging is not definitive, but let's first expand this page over the next years, and then, a split may be welcome. Yug (talk) 19:20, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- This article needs to be tidied up - the grammar is too Indian. For instance "The 2.000US$ Nano car, an artificial foot for 30US$, and drugs conception for 10 millions US$ have been cited as examples of radical Gandhian engineering" is one of the worst sentences I have read. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 05:50, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
