I know this isn't a chat room/message board, but this question, if answered affirmatively, might be good for the article, arguably: There's an urban legend/meme in Portland that the designer/chief engineer of the Fremont won't drive on it because he considers it a death trap. I haven't found any documentation of it, but I thought maybe a person more acquainted with bridges might know. Anyone?--Bltpdx 21:04, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Would finding this person and asking him or her be Original Research? Denimadept 21:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Looking back on my bridge walking tours (1991-2010), I likely mentioned that one of the engineers who worked on the construction of the Fremont Bridge during the giant tied arch's erection in the late 1960s and early 1970s refused to drive on the Fremont Bridge. I believe that this structural engineer — not for a minute the designer/chief engineer — made the comment in a jesting manner because the design of the Fremont Bridge was so cutting edge. This engineer also said he would't fly DC-10 jets, an advancement in aerospace design introduced in the Fremont Bridge's construction era. Bridgestories (talk) 04:10, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Broken link
[edit]It's still broken. We need a more permanent way to point at the reference than a URL containing temp data. Maybe ask the Library for a method? - Denimadept 16:49, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
suicide survival
[edit]I've heard that someone survived a suicide attempt off the fremont bridge. Does anyone else know about that?66.195.36.133 (talk) 22:23, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
