Transgender Information / Removal as such from Google
[edit]Fran's recent videos have touched on the subject of which she claims is not transgendered and was upset that Google searches state this, I was however also under the impression that she herself had stated in previous videos before she was, however we must go on what Ms Blanche says, and am editing out this area which states she is transgendered. --KaraokeMac (talk) 11:57, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- She is publicly open about being transgender. Her problems are with the usage by google of the word transvestite. That word does not mean the same as transgender. 85.167.39.77 (talk) 12:19, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- She is out about being trans, as per this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWdy7cd6g_Y) the issue is the use of the word "transvestite".
- Also, transgender is an adjective and should not have the 'ed' suffix attached to it. Ja450n (talk) 12:43, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Fran is transgender she has never hidden that face, in her video the did not like to be referred to at a slur "transvestite"
- The way the wiki is currently worded "she has been incorrectly labelled as personally identifying as a transgender person" really should be written as
- "she has been incorrectly labelled a transvestite" or something along those lines. Most people (including Fran) view the word/term "transvestite" as a slur, this is what she was upset about. Fuquar7 (talk) 13:26, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Adding Pedal Images
[edit]I have added all the pedal information from the official "Frantone" website but had issues trying to add the corresponding image for each pedal. Could someone tackle this if you don't mind please. --KaraokeMac (talk) 15:33, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Requested move 9 May 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved for now. This is essentially a request to usurp an article. As 162 says, if Fran Blanche is notable, a stand-alone article should be written. (closed by non-admin page mover) Vaticidalprophet 07:00, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Frantone Electronics → Fran Blanche – Frantone Electronics is a sole proprietorship with an on-an-off history dependent on the activities of its founder, Fran Blanche, who also dabbles in a number of other activities such as corsetry, her Youtube channel and historical space technology research/reconstruction, which have seen publication e.g. in Popular Science. With its current focus on Frantone, the page does not accommodate these subjects. The existing sources mention Frantone and Fran Blanche in the same breath, and are about Fran as much or more than they are about Frantone, her company. Post-move, the article could be expanded with the broader information about Blanche, with the content about Frantone retained as a section. Anon423 (talk) 06:13, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose If Fran Blanche meets the requirements of WP:BIO, then content regarding her can be in its own article. 162 etc. (talk) 17:10, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Resource with some interesting sources
[edit]Fran made a video Fran In The Press, 1995-2014] detailing some published books and articles about herself and about Frantone. Worth watching if you want to expand this article. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:02, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
Comments by Fran Blanche about this page
[edit]Fran Blanche has made some comments about the accuracy of this page, here they are verbatim:
1) Frantone was not founded in New York - though I did the majority of my manufacturing there. I began the company in Lancaster PA, in the back of the rental store I managed, and which was owned my my founding partner Mert - as I detailed in my lecture at UArts. 2) I worked at EH after Frantone was established, not before. 3) Lou Reed never used my pedals in his music, but he wanted to. I just did not want to give a millionaire a pedal for free that I worked hard and spent money to make. But I did a very heartfelt tribute to Lou on my channel, so no hard feelings. 4) The Fuzzy Wuzzy was NOT inspired by the Big Muff, in fact it was a completely new kind of fuzztone based the LM386 without any rectifiers, a design that so many others have copied since, and that rarely ever do I get credit for inventing. 5) The Vibutron was not a new design in 2017. I introduced the Vibutron into my line back in 2002, in my Brooklyn days.
This is what I will do about it for now:
1) Leave for someone else to fix. 2) As it stands, the article is technically correct , though misleading, leave for now 3) The source of this claim does say that " Lou Reed was the first person to ever use The Sweet", article is technically correct wrt the source, though misleading, leave for now 4) The source doesn't refer to the Fuzzy Wuzzy, but to the "2000 Big Muff", fixed 5) As I can't find a source for this claim, I will just remove it. Splitting proposal
[edit]I propose that section Fran Blanche be split into a separate page called Fran Blanche. Although they would be relatively short articles as it stands, this would separate the information about the company, from biographical details about a living person. Please see discussions above that suggest this solution to a previous move proposal Lucaswilkins (talk) 20:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- I agree. It's been on my to-do list to split the article since 162 etc. suggested it. – Anon423 (talk) 01:06, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Also agree. The two are related but not the same entity, and honestly I feel like there's ultimately going to be a lot more history to document on the Fran Blanche page than there will be on the Frantone page, given the wealth of personal historical monologues about her life and something like 30 years' worth of the New York music scene that she's made over the years on Youtube. There's more to her than the guitar pedal company she founded. Felice Enellen (talk) 06:01, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Felice Enellen The previous history of the Fran Blanche page shows that it was merged here because there weren't sufficient independent sources about Blanche to sustain a seperate biography. The info about her currently in this article is all sourced from her own youtubes or interviews. A few strong independent sources will need to be found before a split would be viable. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:25, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- I understand that we are generally considered unreliable narrators when it comes to talking about our own lives, but it seems like the very large corpus of information she's dumped to her channels over the years about herself, her life, and her relationship with the music industry and people she knows and has known or interacted with, e.g. Jill Sobule, must carry some weight, even if it's autobiographical. A lot of important people throughout history were fairly private people who we now know mostly through their own journals and not necessarily by writings of their peers. - Oppose Split: The few cited secondary sources appear to cover Fran Blanche only in close relation to Frantone. The Fran Blanche section is entirely based on primary self-published sources, which alone are insufficient to form a separate article per WP:BLPSELFPUB. And per the same policy I think this entire section should actually be removed. NicolausPrime (talk) 18:17, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
