The result of the move request was: move the page, per the discussion below and WP:NC. Dekimasuよ! 01:29, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Flag of the Islamic State → Flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – or to Flag of ISIL. The main article is at Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and related articles include Timeline of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant events, 2014 military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, 2014 ISIL beheading incidents, List of wars and battles involving the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Military of ISIL, Timeline of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant events. It's not a nation but see also: Category:National flags. Which title should be used? Gregkaye ✍♪ 12:31, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
- Comment it would be better if we called this thing Da'esh, then we wouldn't be confused on whether it is IS, ISIS, ISIL -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:35, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- If we do not standardize on "Da'esh", then we should use the same title format as the main article Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, so strong support per WP:CONSISTENCY -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 04:29, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Comment when this article is renamed, the current title should somehow link to other flags of other entities called the Islamic State (such as all previous caliphates' banners) be it a set index or something else. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 04:43, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose the title "Flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" is too long, hence the reason why I simply called it "Flag of the Islamic State".
- For example:
- Islamic State of Iraq
- Islamic State of Iraq and Syria
- Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham
- Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
Notice the patten? Just like "Flag of the United Kingdom", "Flag of the United States", etc... Using the country's prefix instead of the full name. And yes the Islamic State is technically a quasi-nation, albeit an unrecognised one. Similer to the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan", also ruled by a terrorist organisation – the Taliban. TRAJAN 117 (talk) 13:45, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- TRAJAN 117 the article Flag of the United Kingdom is directly related to the article entitled United Kingdom and the article on the Flag of the United States relates to the article entitled United States. As mentioned, please see, Category:National flags. The general trend in regard to nations is for the article name of the flag to follow the article name of its country. The example of the Flag of the West Indies Federation also indicates that long titles are used. Are you aware that there is a moritorium on moves on the main article title until January 1915? See: Talk:Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant#Requested Moves/#Moratorium. The main question here is whether to use Flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant as consistent with the majority of parallel article titles or whether to use Flag of ISIL as consistent with the article Military of ISIL and 2014 ISIL beheading incidents, both rare exceptions to the general titling trend. The naming of this article was recently discussed at Talk:Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant#Recent article: Military wing of ISIL.
- Most importantly many people especially in political and Islamic communities do not accept the validity of an Islamic State claiming authority over all of Islam. See search on: "so called Islamic State" OR "self described Islamic State" OR "self proclaimed Islamic State" or even on Ban-Ki Moon's "Non-Islamic Non-State". I sympathise with the suggestion by 67.70.35.44. Gregkaye ✍♪ 14:44, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- Comment: This flag was first adopted[when?] when the group was name Islamic State in Iraq (ISI) and has been continued to be used through more recent name changes. As per my proposal here under "Proposal - use names that are contextually appropriate:" I suggest that when referring to the group through multiple incarnations that ISIL is the preferred name. If this flag was only used after renaming to "Islamic State" then the current title would be more appropriate~Technophant (talk) 21:56, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Support to Change Title: To be consistent with the other articles about ISIL. Every attempt to call this group "Islamic State" has failed and we should not have to discuss the same thing over and over. Legacypac (talk) 22:25, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Comment, in connection to various politically charged topics it may be necessary for admin to make clear decisions based on policy arguments presented rather than solely relying on !vote. Gregkaye ✍♪ 16:55, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Not only the Islamic State's Flag
[edit]This flag is used by a multitude of Jihadist groups, including al-Shabaab, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and Boko Haram. Gazkthul (talk) 22:05, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Proposed Deletion
[edit]We already have an article on this flag. This should be speedy deleted. What else can we say about this flag not said just as well at Black Standard? Legacypac (talk) 22:28, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Note: Legacypac proposed CSD:A10 which was rejected then replaced with WP:Prod.~Technophant (talk) 02:00, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- I believe that I have selected the correct template now. Legacypac (talk) 08:38, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
