Hi! I've redacted sentences which were copied directly from Stanford's website because they represent a copyright violation. Wikipedia takes this pretty seriously, so we need to make sure that articles are written in the editor's own words and suitably referenced. Even if you're the author of the original profile, it is released on a page with Stanford's copyright on it. Please see WP:CV for details.
It's also worth noting that with a name like Visionscholar, the author of this draft is likely to be closely connected with its subject! Please be aware of issues surrounding conflict of interest when editing Wikipedia. In particular, it's not a good idea to create articles about yourself, your family or friends. Hi! I have added two sentences that give important context about Li's role at Google, as well as her departure from Google. Li's role in Project Maven and her emails about the project were covered in multiple reliable sources. They were also directly linked to her departure by multiple reliable sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Albie4773 (talk • contribs) 20:15, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Intercept leaked that internal email in May, 2018;[1] Google announced her departure September 10, 2018.[2] Neither Google nor Li says that Li left Google because of the leaked emails; conjoining the two events to imply one caused the other is WP:SYNTH aka post-hoc fallacy. The NYT is RS on these events. HouseOfChange (talk) 22:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did some revision just now. But I was confused about the birthplace.
I saw a source claiming that Dr. Fei-Fei Li was born in Chengdu, but it was said that "She was born in Beijing and grew up in Chengdu" on Wikipedia in multiple languages.
Could someone help do some fact checking about the correct birthplace? Or shall we remove city name from the birthplace if it comes to be no clear clues. Charles Dong (talk) 03:52, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The earliest versions of this article, from its promotion from a draft in 2014, just say born in Beijing. No source was given and although much of the draft was based on her faculty profile I don't see any birthplace on the profile. The claim of growing up in Chengdu was added in Special:Diff/895723899 by User:HouseOfChange (still an active editor). That edit did not give a new source, but the existing footnote immediately following the addition, to a 2018 story in Wired, does source growing up in Chengdu. It doesn't say where she was born, but the phrasing suggests that it was not Chengdu. —David Eppstein (talk) 04:44, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I relied on the 2018 Wired story for saying she "grew up in Chengdu." Both fr-wiki and zh-wiki give Beijing as her birthplace, citing only the same Wired article, which makes no such claim. Li herself, however, says "I was born in Beijing" in her Stanford bio,[3] so we could probably cite that as it is primary but not a contentious claim. Thank you for your elaboration. That is exactly what I'm confused about. I didn't see any credited info proving that she was born in Beijing or Chengdu either. There is indeed no clues about her birthplace in her faculty profile on Stanford. Charles Dong (talk) 05:32, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
