- ... that Fawzia Amin Sido, who was abducted during the Yazidi genocide and forced to marry a Palestinian ISIS fighter, was rescued from Gaza in an operation involving the Israeli army, the US and others?

- The sources used (VoA & BBC) don't even mention any involvement of Israeli forces except a spokesperson saying: "The Israeli military said Ms Sido was eventually freed during a "complex operation coordinated between Israel, the United States, and other international actors" and taken to Iraq via Israel and Jordan". … Iraqi foreign ministry official Silwan Sinjaree told Reuters that several earlier attempts to rescue her over the course of about four months failed because of the security situation in Gaza.
So according to the sources, Israel was certainly involved and probably partly enabled her escape, but also the security situation in Gaza had actually delayed her rescue.
That this is a remarkably heartbreaking story is not disutable, that she was rescued as a result of Israeli army actions seems pure spin based on these sources.Pincrete (talk) 14:02, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- I am simply marking this as rejected, given the nominators CU-block. Regards, Aafi (talk) 18:00, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
Is it just me or does this page feel like it doesn't quite follow the Wiki style guide. Feels like it's trying to make a point rather than just being informative in some parts. Elilupe (talk) 00:50, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- I completely agree, I was expecting a paragraph or two explaining what happened to her. Not a 2000 word play-by-play of all the atrocious history of ISIS against the Yazidi women. Some basic context makes sense, but the entire "Background" opener and about 75% of this article seem wholly unneeded. I was about to make an argument for deletion as a single event is not-notable, she should rather be included on another page an example of the ISIS atrocities, rather than an entire page dedicated to her. 136.32.152.38 (talk) 02:01, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- The Background section is incredibly detailed and presents a really neutral POV as to the overrall context of the conflict. In my opinion is even better than the related main topic pages which are heavily edited by consensus towards western sources, and do not for example portray with the right balance arguments like Netanyahu claims of "Hamas being ISIS" while actually immediately pointing to the contradiction being the Hamas–ISIS conflict.
- In fact it shows the nature of unfairness and pure luck being a key factor of her and many such others condition, and gives context to the overrall victim being not only a victim of violence toward her but also a victim of this chaos of a war, and now becoming againt another victim as a propagandistic means.
- Also her story has been extensively documented by sources so no reason to delete for non-notability. Anne Frank was also a single subject of an overrall bigger event, but given it sheds light into the context of the Holocaust it's important to have that key element of the overrall story. --31.191.84.239 (talk) 10:01, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Hamas apologists
[edit]Seriously, half this page is dedicated not to Fawzia Amin Sido but to a fond attempt to exonerate Hamas. I think a link to a separate page examining the question of Hamas's resemblance to ISIS or lack thereof would be sufficient. Right now it reads less like an informative page about Fawzia and more like a long Hamas-apologizing rant 2A0D:6FC7:50F:AC00:AC51:E8B8:D0F4:3E (talk) 03:09, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Needs cleanup; “Background” needs to go…
[edit]As an elder Wikipedian, I must say this article has good and verifiable information. But it is also scatterbrained. For example, the entire “Background” needs to go. It is all tangential information at best. Also the “Living in the Gaza Strip” needs some serious consolidation; it should be cleaner and more concise like “Early life and captivity” and “Travel to the Gaza Strip.”
I would do this myself, but I feel I would be stepping into a proverbial hornet’s nest. Thus my posting this here to say there is a good article here, but it is definitely mired in a scatterbrained mess of everyone trying to make their point. Hamas and ISIS are terrible, but the very basic facts about this poor woman’s ordeal should speak to that. It doesn’t need to be hammered in repeatedly. Remember, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” --Giacomo1968 (talk) 01:22, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- I attempted to clean things up with “Background” with the use of “see also” stuff. Not sure if that is the best way to handle, but it definitely makes the page more readable. Please chime in if you have ideas! --01:42, 20 October 2024 (UTC) Giacomo1968 (talk) 01:42, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Giacomo1968 Some of the background definitely wasn't needed, e.g. the very detailed ideology section was just copy paste from the ISIS page and wasn't relevant. But I think this page needs at least a couple of lines describing the Yazidi genocide, at the end of the background or the beginning of the "Early life and captivity" section. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 10:50, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Definitely. It can be cleaned up and whittled down while retaining pertinent details. --Giacomo1968 (talk) 13:37, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

archive removed
[edit]@Spinixster, why did you remove the archive link from this citation? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fawzia_Amin_Sido&diff=1253141964&oldid=1253107454 Lamb, Christina (2024-10-13). - was the problem with the Times just that the link was broken? Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 22:41, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- That was just temporary. I will run the article through WP:IABot to archive it again once it's done. Spinixster (trout me!) 00:45, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

- I was already doing that, a few at a time. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 08:45, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- But web archive is offline and there's no timeline for it being back on line in a stable way? The one you removed was archive.today Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 08:53, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Spinixster But Web Archive is frequently not even readable lately. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 01:05, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- What do you mean? It is in a read-only state at the moment. I'm pretty sure it's not gonna collapse fully. But, again, I will manually add the archive.today links. Spinixster (trout me!) 13:01, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

POV of this page since 15 October 2024 has been seriously skewed
[edit]What's with edits of users either located in Israel, or deeply invested into Israel topics having profoundly skewed the POV of this page since the 15 October 2024 version?
Previously the page reflected the overrall context of unluck of being born in the wrong place, and the hurdles people like her have to endure and even hard choices and events they have to live with, just for being in the ME.
I mean just read this thing: "By the end of 2018, after U.S.-led Kurdish forces expelled ISIS from Syria"... Same with presenting the official IDF version for the first-half of the whole article, then liquidating the other version with a simple line saying "The United States State Department spokesperson said Sido had been "safely evacuated", not "rescued".".
It's been a while since last editing here. What's the proper tag to call in a neutral review? -151.28.9.195 (talk) 14:53, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Can you suggest improvements? Or parts of the 15 October version that were good? Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 15:51, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

- The page isn't locked, so if you can think of ways to improve it you can edit it? Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 23:35, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
