The club was renamed Dukla Prague in honour of the Battle of the Dukla Pass (Dukla is a town in Poland), not in honour of the (non-existing) Slovak village "that withstood a German onslaught during World War II".

Merge proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge, as the clubs are sufficiently distinct (different ownership and without historical continuity); see also discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 167#Dukla Prague; proposal for a name change, but details are unclear and can be separately discussed. Forgive me if this nomination is misguided, not overly familiar with the conventions of Wikipedia football editors. I noticed browsing today, hunting for the Dukla in Europe article actually, that English Wikipeda does not appear to be in line with a significant other (but not all) Wikipedias in still maintaining two separate articles here, and it seems that the two clubs are in practice widely regarded as one again; specifically, that the two articles in the Czech Wikipedia are the same, see for instance.
Differing from the Czech version is surprisingly and counter-intuitive. And even on the English Wikipedia there is some concession to the belief that the two entities are one, for instance in some of the text and the foundation date in the infobox. Is this an oversight here, should we merge the two here, or do the conventions of the football editors on English Wikipedia dictate a different approach? - They are different clubs; the original Dukla merged with Pribram in 1996, while Dejvice did not start identifying themselves as Dukla Praha until 2001, so it is not even as if, as occurs in some cases, A became B but C became A so there was a continuation - A was effectively 'dead' for five years. Other than the league, which for some reason has chosen to equate Dukla's 93/94 season with its post-2011 seasons rather than linking that 93/94 to the Pribram team which first appeared in the top league in 97/98, nothing has been provided on English Wikipedia to demonstrate or even suggest that the current club is legally the same as the old club (how it is dealt with on other language platforms is not really relevant, although there may be some useful sources which can be transferred over, I haven't checked. But until that happens, in my opinion they should remain separate articles. PS Hardly anyone will view this here, so feel free to raise the matter at WP:FOOTY for more opinions, maybe the majority will disagree with me. Crowsus (talk) 20:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. You say 'They are different clubs', all due respect but you're kinda just summarising the article, I read it too before posting here ... but what does this do for establishing that they are regarded as different clubs in practice today? Or, if that matters to Wikipedia editors here? If they want to present themselves as the same club & everyone in Czechia accepts it then, well, neither of us are Czech judges or football authorities who can decide if they are different clubs & the different 'legal statuses' in play historically, do they really mean anything unless they do to Czechs and the fans of the club? It seems that the current football club is claiming and by the logic of the Czech Wikipedia article being accepted as the same club. Isn't that the logic, for instance, with Rangers FC? Anyway, the Czech article appears to say that the club got back all the Honours of the traditional army club, but it's not cited. I wouldn't dare try to move it I know the established football folk have a lot of guidelines & ways of thinking that I don't have much time to learn or engage with, I just wondered and thought it was odd that the English Wikipedia's treatment was different from their own treatment on Czech Wikipedia.Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 20:36, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Took your suggestion and posted about this here : Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Dukla_Prague Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 20:38, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose a merge - I think they are separate clubs with the same name - but the article names should be changed. GiantSnowman 19:07, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
