[edit]

The current article is introduced with the dual names of "The European Library or the European Digital Library is a...", but where does that second name come from? I have only seen the name written as "The European Library" (including "The") with the abbreviation TEL. This existing gateway to national libraries in Europe is something very different from the proposed fr:Bibliothèque numérique européenne, which as far as I know only has a name in French, since it is a French proposal. --LA2 16:58, 20 April 2006 (UTC) =[reply]

Remark by Fleur Stigter

[edit]

NB: The central access point to European cultural heritage which became known as “European digital library” (EDL or 'Bibliotheque numerique europeenne) has changed its name. From now on the one and only correct title is Europeana.

Please mind that there are 2 different services:

1. The European Library / La Bibliothèque Européenne 2. Europeana (earlier named European digital library)

Can someone please correct this in the article? Many, many thanks!! Fleur Stigter—Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.171.184.19 (talkcontribs)

Updating the European Library page

[edit]

Hi,

I work as a PR Editor for The European library. I've signed up to Wikipedia because I'd like to help improve our Wikipedia page.

I'll do this by following the Conflict of Interest guidelines and engaging with the community. I'll volunteer as much information as possible and ask other Wikipedians to help make the changes.

To start, I've made a factual correction to the first paragraph. The number of libraries participating in TEL is 48, not 47 as previously cited. I also added the fact that our resources include material in 35 languages. I've added a link to our About Us page to back this up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friedel (EL) (talkcontribs) 09:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Making This Page Better

[edit]

Hi everyone -

I work for The European Library and this Wiki page is out of date, so I've been tasked with trying to make it better.

Because there are so many changes, I made a draft of what I think the new page could look like and you can see it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Friedel_(EL)/European_Library

I'm aware of COI guidelines and I really want to work with the Wiki community to make this page as accurate and complete as it can be. I'd love to know what you think of my draft and if you have any questions or suggested improvements / clarifications.

I understand from another Wiki user (WittyLama) that if, after a couple of weeks, no one comments or acts on these changes then it would be okay to implement them myself? Of course, if the community wants to use the info I've provided to update the page, that would be great too.

I've posted a similar message on this discussion page:

Thanks,

Hi! You may want to use cite templates such as {{cite web}} to format the references. IMO you should probably add a bit more prose to the article, such as converting the section on virtual exhibitions to prose form. The article also needs what the EL affects the outside world, eg how people think about it. By the way, this site is called Wikipedia, not wiki. A wiki is any website using wiki software; there are thousands of them. Regards Kayau Voting IS evil 10:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

European Library page updated

[edit]

I've just made quite a few updates to the live EL page, after drafting a new version in my personal space and consulting with the Wiki community here:

48 OR 49

[edit]

Hi, I don't want to do changes myself since I am no specialist of the TEL topic, but I allow myself to mention that, in the "History and concept" section, the table feature 49 when, lower, in the "Partner libraries" section, it is said there are 48... I believe Wales national library (last one joining in 2011) has been forgotten in the latter section... MorandC HEG Genève 195.176.237.23 (talk) 11:03, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
