I will be picking up the review of this one - both for the Wiki Cup and the GA cup as well. I will be making my review comments over the next couple of days.

Side note, I would love some input on a Featured List candidate (Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship) and a Featured Article candidate (CMLL World Heavyweight Championship). I am not asking for Quid pro Quo, but all help is appreciated.  MPJ-US  13:07, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GA Toolbox

[edit]

I like to get this checked out first, I have found issues using this that has led to quick fails so it's important this passes muster.

Peer review tool
  • WP:LEAD - the lead is too short, just one paragraph. Article this size should have 2-3, preferably 3 since it's supposed to be a "good article"
Copyright violations Tool
  • Not seeing anything Green tickY
Disambiguation links
  • Checks out Green tickY
External links
  • Apparently the tool is having problems with the greek characters so I will have to check each link myself.

Well Written

[edit]
  • All measurements should be presented in both metric and us with the conversion templates.
  • "a historic settlement of Attica" do you mean "in Attica"?
History
  • "during intensive urban development", should be "during the intensive urban development"
  • "The earliest signs of prehistoric settlement in Euonymeia were recognized in the 1950s and '60s at the Kontopigado site, where Neolithic era masonry was identified during expansion work on the Vouliagmenis Avenue around a small hill, rising 6 meters above the surrounding ground." I think if you break it down into two sentences it would work better, perhaps something along the lines of "The earliest signs of prehistoric settlement in Euonymeia were recognized in the 1950s and '60s at the Kontopigado site. Neolithic era masonry was identified during expansion work on the Vouliagmenis Avenue, which included digging around a small hill, rising 6 meters above the surrounding ground.", less run-on.
  • "Several thousand obsidian tool specimens were collected from both Kontopigado, and Pan's Hill." - have been collected? and I assume this is over time right? not in one excavation?
Geometric
  • "8th Century" should be "8th-Century"
  • "as Euonymos Theater" - "as the Euonymos Theater"?
Classical: Deme of Euonymos
  • "spectators, and" does not need the comma
  • "the recent discovery" can we get a more specific frame of "reference"
  • "Several Euonymeans were notable military figures", may be worth throwing out a few names then, especially if they have a wikipedia article.
Medieval
  • "13th century" should be "13th-century"
  • "Catholic allegiance of the Frankish" should be "allegiance to"
19th and 20th centuries
  • "against 680.000 drachma" should be "for 680.000 drachma"
  • "the estate is converted" past tense "was converted"
  • "This leads to a" should be "This lead to a"
Geography
  • "the contemporary avenues of Vouliagmenis" you can leave out the "contemporary", that's implied
  • "(from Greek trachoni meaning rock)", already mentioned can be deleted.
Civic Life
  • "Contingent to the square", not sure contingent is correct, how about "adjacent"?

Sources

[edit]
  • So I had to manually check all sources as the tool choked on the Greek characters I think
  • Reference 9 is dead
  • Reference 12 - is listing the date as the title, not the title of the PDF
  • Reference 15 is dead
  • Reference 23 is dead
  • Reference 26 is dead
  • Reference 31 is dead
  • Reference 33 is dead
  • Reference 39 is dead
  • This is more of a presonal preference, but is it possible to add in some translations on the sources? Especially the ones that look like they're quoting something? like Reference 1 and 2. It would just make it more accessible to non-Greek speakers/readers
  • Some references have a diffrent date format, some are "January 1, 2016" orthers are "2016-01-01", I don't have a preference as long as they're all the same format.
  • For books is it possible to put the publisher location?
  • So being in greek there are some sights I have no clue on how to really verify that they're Reliable sources so perhaps you can help me figure some sites out for me?
  • What is wikispaces? is it just the technology and the "Alimos" is the important part? if so is it an RS?
  • tovima.gr?

Broad in coverage

[edit]
  • It's pretty light on current day but it's got some detail and the criteria is "broad", not "comprehensive" so we're good there Green tickY

Neutral

[edit]
  • yup Green tickY

Stable

[edit]
  • No indications of issues on the talk page or the relatively short article history. Green tickY

Illustrated / Images

[edit]
  • They all check out Green tickY
  • @Alx bio: - Review complete for now, placing it on hold to allow for improvements to be made over the next week or so and if you need more time than that I am okay with that too. Let me know if you have any questions etc.  MPJ-US  04:29, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @MPJ-DK: - Thank you for the awesome work on this review! I can address all the points you raise. I agree that translations of the relevant excerpts from refs will make the article much more accessible. I'll go ahead and do that and will gladly take you up on the offer of a few extra days for doing so, thanks! alx_bio 05:24, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions

[edit]
  • I’ve fixed the dead links in refs 9, 12, 15, 23, 26, 31, 33, and 39.
  • translated the quotes of references 1, 2, 29, and 39.
  • changed all dates to the YYY-MM-DD format.
  • added publisher location to book refs
  • added conversion templates for all units from SI to US.
  • implemented all syntax, grammar, and cosmetic suggestions in the text (thanks for the edits @MPJ-DK:!!!).
  • added examples of Notable Euonymeians.

Remaining issues to address GA2 review in full: check RS of refs and expand the lead. Will do tomorrow. alx_bio 05:08, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Expanded Lead into three paragraphs that summarize geography and location, the notable landmarks and features of the area, and its cultural and historical significance.

The following are notes justifying how the three refs in question (10, 29, and 35) meet the Reliable Sources criteria:

  • Reference 29 is an article published in to Vima, a Sunday broadleaf newspaper with nation-wide circulation. It is one of the most established and reputable news outlets in Greece and thus meets the RS criteria. Links to the wikipedia pages for the newspaper and the publishing house are included in the reference. Adjusted cite news parameters to make this more clear.
  • Reference 35 is the official website of the local preservation society, “The Society for the Preservation and Development of Antiquities in Alimos, Eidodia – Trachones”, a non-profit organization recognized by the local government administration. This is a “biased source” based on the RS criteria. However, since the society has access to primary historical documents that are not published elsewhere, and these are cited to support facts in the Euonymeia article in a neutral context, it thus falls under the category of useful biased source of the RS criteria that is reliable in the specific context. Due to local funding shortages, the website is hosted on a general-use blog server (blogspot), however it remains the official website of the society.
  • Reference 10 is a publication of a large original and bibliographic research project done by students of the 2nd Lyceum of Alimos (the local high school in Euonymeia) in 2012 under a committee of Professors and teaching staff that oversaw the project. The publication of the findings is eponymous with the names of all student groups participating in the research, and the names of school staff advisors. The study is hosted online through an open repository for teaching material (Wikispaces TES). The research involves questionnaires of residents and on-site visits to archeological excavations. While not a professional society or organization, given the shortage of original research and local sources, this source is rich and valuable to the article, documented in a scientific and unbiased way. Please advise as to whether this source meets RS criteria or whether the information derived from it should be removed from the article.

  • Excellent work, looking over your comments etc.it looks like you've covered a heck of a lot. I am okay with the RS status of the sources you explained, so I am going to do anther read through to see if it is actually there at GA level.  MPJ-US  23:31, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Alx bio: - just had a small adjustment I just fixed myself. I would say that this is now a Good Article. Congratulations. MPJ-US  23:45, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
