Etymology of coronata
[edit]CANBR, Sharr and Short, give coronatus as meaning "crowned.
CANBR:
- "ORIGIN OF NAME: Eucalyptus coronata Latin coronatus, crowned, referring to the sculptured opercula.[1]
Sharr:
- coronatus: L c. crowned (refers to 1 the sepals: Dampiera; 2 the fruit with large appendages to the valves: Eucalyptus: 3 the fruit topped by the sepals: Oxymyrrhine; (etc.)[2]
Short:
- crown corona (noun f. 1); crowning coronans (part. B); crowned coronatus (part. A)[3]: 150
