QPQ: Done. |
Overall: New enough (created on 3 January) and long enough (4937 characters); Sourced, neutral, and free of plagiarism (Earwig says that a violation is unlikely, and didn't find any myself); Hook is cited (source behind a paywall, But the headline and blurb are accessible) and interesting; No pics; QPQ provided.
Approving this with a slight modification to the hook, that is, wikilinking emu - ALT0a:"... that an emu named Emmanuel Todd Lopez was the target of a death hoax by undercover journalists?".
Another hook could be ALT1: "Emmanuel has been described as "arguably the world's most famous emu"? "Source: (Washington Post) The wording on ALT1 is somewhat clunky, so I'd prefer ALT0a. AmateurHi$torian (talk) 21:21, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- If we go with ALT1, I would like it to use the full name "Emmanuel Todd Lopez" because I think it's funnier that way. — Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧 (talk | contribs) 21:29, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment Based on the title of that article, I think this could be another funny alt hook:
- ALT2: ... that an emu was targeted by an Israeli black ops team?
- Di (they-them) (talk) 18:42, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Vigilantcosmicpenguin, with ALT2 in mind, would you be willing to save this for WP:DYKAPRIL? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:43, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- As funny as that would be, I don't think ALT2 would be an acceptable hook. "Israeli black ops team" is a quote from the title of a news article; there's nothing else in the source that would actually support the phrasing "black ops team". So I can't really say that statement in wikivoice. — Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧 (talk | contribs) 17:30, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'm GhostRiver. I'll be reviewing this article against the good article criteria. By doing so, I am earning points for the WikiCup and the January 2025 GAN Backlog Drive. Although a quid pro quo review is not necessary, it is appreciated. You can see what open good article nominations I have here.
I will go through the article section by section checking it against the criteria. Once I have finished my review, I will place the article on hold, giving you seven days to respond. If you need more time, just reach out! Infobox and lede
[edit]- don't need the age template in the lede, only in the infobox
- Right. fixed.
- link emu in lede

- link "gone viral" to viral phenomenon

often involving the phrase "Emmanuel, don't do it!"
Two notes here. First, there should be a comma after the word "phrase". Second, unclear from this sentence who is saying the sentence. Context clues are good, clarity is even better.- Rephrased to
to which Blake often responds, "Emmanuel, don't do it!"
- Rephrased to
She moved onto her family's farm in 2021 and set up a TikTok account for it.
→After moving onto her family's farm in 2021, she established a TikTok account for the site.
- Done
- combine two sentences into something like:
That month, Blake made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, while Emmanuel was the target of a death hoax.
- Done
When the emu got ill in October 2022, Blake initially believed he had avian influenza before determining that he was reacting to stress.
→Three months later, Emu had an avian influenza scare that was ultimately diagnosed as a stress reaction.
- Not done. I think it's more precise to specify that Blake is the one who said it, as her tweets were the main point of coverage.
Life and career
[edit]She began filming with the farm's animals in 2018. She and her girlfriend moved to the farm from Los Angeles in 2021 to help her grandparents with the farm.
→She began filming content with the farm's animals in 2018, and in 2021, Blake and her girlfriend moved from Los Angeles to Florida to help her grandparents with Knuckle Bump Farms.
- Done, but kept as two sentences.
initially focusing on the cattle
- Done
Blake's grandmother adopted two emus, Emmanuel and Ellen, in 2015. The emus do not get along.
→In 2015, Blake's grandmother adopted two emus, Emmanuel and Ellen, who do not get along with each other.
- Done
- would actually move the sentence about the emus to right after the first sentence, because then those two lines are about the animals on the farm before we move into talking about Blake
- Makes sense, done.
- restructure second paragraph so that we start with the first video about Emmanuel and then move into the videos writ large
- Done
- move the third paragraph ("Blake has explained that Emmanuel's behavior...") and the last paragraph ("Emmanuel got sick in October 2022") to a separate section called "Reactions" or something similar, as those two paras deal with the overall response to the emu and should be linked
- Done, good call.
- some MOS:LQ issues throughout - unless you're writing out a whole sentence of a quote, the period or comma goes outside the quotation marks
- Fixed, should've proofread better.
got sick
→fell ill
- Done
- link "pathologists" to veterinary pathology
- Done
risked transmission of the disease.
- Done
- link first instance of "tweets" or "tweeted" to Twitter
- Linked to Tweet (social media)
- if you can find a reliable source, I'd add a sentence about Emmanuel's first video post-bird flu scare in November
- I can't find any RSes that mention this.
References and links
[edit]- References [1] (WaPo), [4] (LA Times), and [9] (NYT) should all have the "|url-access=limited" parameter added to the end

- Alphabetize the categories
