Rename

[edit]

I would like to rename per WP:NC to Eluned Morgan (politician). Any comments please? AndrewRT(Talk) 17:39, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed per WP:NCPEER. Kittybrewster 20:07, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move per proposal. Plurality supports a move, and given the need for disambiguation, the arguments for the current name ring hollow. Orlady (talk) 04:49, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eluned Morgan (politician)Eluned Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Ely.

Oppose - Better known as a politician in general. Was not a peer and MEP so is begtter known without the title.--Lucy-marie (talk) 14:27, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support. WP:NCPEER is quite clear. This peeress is no longer wholly or exclusively known by her pre-peerage nomenclature. Disambiguation very much needed there are 2 Eluned Morgans and 3 Baroness Morgans. Kittybrewster 15:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Need to improve references

[edit]

There is a surprising amount of biographical information on this page without references. I've added the refimprove tag and I'm now going to spend some time trying to get some references. I'm also a bit troubled by potentially close association to this article by some of the users who have edited this page in the past, including a user called User:Eluned_Morgan, but I won't jump to any conclusions at the moment. Seaweed (talk) 09:12, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some references and removed some non-notable information. It's quite tricky to find good, verifiable references because I think that many websites that come up in searches with biographical information probably have got their information from this very Wikipedia page in the past (i.e. without good or any references).Seaweed (talk) 16:50, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Specific section for Betsi Cadwaladr?

[edit]

I'd augur that the main thing people know about Eluned Morgan, if they know anything at all, is her close association with the Betsi Cadwaladr crisis. Taking that into consideration, shouldn't it have it's own dedicated section, or at least be part of a broader 'Controversies' section? Gwiltherin (talk) 18:21, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Last year's vote of no confidence is already in the article. I guess there's no harm in adding a bit more context, but we tend to avoid general "Controversies" sections. To be frank I'm surprised there isn't more about the "crisis" in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board article. Sionk (talk) 22:52, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Gwiltherin (talk) 08:17, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eluned Morgan, Baroness Morgan of ElyEluned Morgan – Once upon a time, this article was moved from Eluned Morgan (politician) to the current title as a better way to disambiguate, in line with WP:NCPEER – the previous move discussion can be found above. However, now that this article has been found to be the primary topic of "Eluned Morgan" since her selection as first minister of Wales, I think there is a prima facie case that we can omit her peerage from the article title, as it's no longer needed for disambiguation, and she isn't using her noble title while serving as first minister and on leave of absence from the House of Lords. Moreover, the BBC have started referring to her as "Ms Morgan". — RAVENPVFF · talk · 23:49, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. S5A-0043Talk 10:24, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support per all of the above Flatthew (talk) 14:49, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom and above. I think this might also be getting into WP:SNOW territory now. ThatRandomGuy1 (talk) 12:53, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Primary topic and well-known before her peerage. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:24, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, although it's fairly futile now: I am not convinced that she is, per NCPEER, almost exclusively known by her personal name. It's true that the BBC refers to her as "Ms Morgan", but the Guardian and Independent both (usually) opt for her title: a small point maybe, but when there is another Eluned Morgan this is the natural disambiguator, and for most of the 2010s she was more commonly referred to as "Baroness Morgan of Ely". Unlike Thatcher or Eden she holds the most important role of her career whilst being a peer. I would wait until she renounces her peerage, if, as she has said, she will do. Cheers – Tim O'Doherty (talk) 21:14, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support, per nom, and the fact she is best known now as First Minister of Wales, and not as a member of the House of Lords. Goodreg3 (talk) 23:58, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, a welcome change, this is Wikipedia not Burke's Peerage. Morgan has always been involved in elected public life so better known by her personal name. Sionk (talk) 09:33, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
