Bjork
[edit]Not sure how best to add this to the article, but there has been a lot of talk over the years about Bjork being offered the house on this island by the Icelandic government. Or exclusive use of the island. Or she wanted to buy it. In any case this is the most coherent article I've seen on the subject: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/iceland-balks-at-island-freebie-for-bjork-724765.html coaxial (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 07:49, 22 February 2011 (UTC).
- The owner of the house offered it to me for a short time rental. It's owned by one of the hotel owners on Heimaey. I was forced to rent his suite, because no other rooms were available on the entire island. 143.232.210.150 (talk) 22:52, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
This is not the island that Björk was associated with. The island that the Björk story is about is also named Elliðaey but is a different island in Breiðafjörður in the western part of Iceland.See contemporary news report Tryggvi bt (talk) 00:31, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Not the right island
[edit]The picture does, indeed, show the island Elliðaey in the Vestmannaeyjar-archipelago just south of the Icelandic mainland. The eponymous island that Björk wanted to purchase from the Icelandic government is, however, in the fjord Breiðafjörður in Western Iceland. Not the same place at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.160.184.190 (talk) 02:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC) Just so you know, you used eponymous incorrectly. 192.91.171.42 (talk) 16:20, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Is the image titled Elliðaey (Breiðafjörður) of Elliðaey?

Name?
[edit]Does anyone know what the name means? Eyjan means "island" in Icelandic, and many island names end in "ey", which is cognate to the first syllable of our "island". (The "s" is historically bogus. In Old English it was "iland". Later people thought it was "isle-land" and added the "s". See wiktionary:island#Etymology.) So what is "Elliða"? --Thnidu (talk) 03:19, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
The hunting of the Snark
[edit]Hunting lodge? So what do they hunt? Puffins? Who the hell shoots puffins? Bunnies? Mammoths? Icelandic widows? I'll be in that. Email me... Captainbeefart (talk) 13:28, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Incorrect scale on map
[edit]The scale on the map is off (by a factor of around 2.5)! Heimaey is 4km across but is only around 1.6km across according to the scale.
