Move to duckunoo
[edit]I think the article should be moved to the U spelling. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
merge into Ducana?
[edit]The lead of this article current states that Duckanoo is "the Antiguan name for the dish Ducana". To the uninitiated observer, it appears that these are very similar dishes with some regional differences in preparation. Are they similar enough that they could be merged into a single article, with mentions of the various names and methods of preparation? Nick Number (talk) 17:23, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, I think this article should be restored to focus on the Jamaican dish which appears to have some clear distinctions. Recent changes have tried to make it about the other subject coveredk, as you note, elsewhere. But I welcome the input of others. Candleabracadabra (talk) 04:37, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- I revamped the article which was poorly written and only talked about Antigua's dish, while merely mentioning others. I contributed the main pics of duckunoo, made in Jamaica. Also, I noticed that there's a Ducana page which focuses on the Antiguan variation, which is fine. At first, I thought that having 2 similar pages was unnecessary based on what Nick Number stated, but maybe Antiguans wanted a page which focuses on their dish. Therefore, the merge isn't necessary. There's also a page on conkies (a similar dish) which did not mention other variations from Jamaica, Antigua or elsewhere. For this reason I did not mention it here.
- This article is broader and more detailed, as I mentioned all relevant regional variations that I know of, along with history, background info (ingredients and preparation), etymology and pics. I didn't want to remove what was already written about the Antiguan variation, so I only improved it by adding info about others, including Jamaica's. There are some similarities and differences among them which is why I elaborated on each variation. Xaymacan (talk) 01:25, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
Use of "and/or"
[edit]The construction "and/or" is used frequently in the article. MOS:ANDOR discourages its use: Avoid writing and/or unless other constructions would be lengthy or awkward. Instead of Most had trauma and/or smoke inhalation, write simply trauma or smoke inhalation (which would normally be interpreted as an inclusive or to imply or both); or, for emphasis or precision or both, write trauma or smoke inhalation or both. Where more than two possibilities are present, instead of x, y, and/or z write one or more of x, y, and z or some or all of x, y, and z.
In any case, this bot flagged this article's "and/or" constructions for correction, and my attempt at correction was reverted. Dhtwiki (talk) 08:46, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
