Drapers Company
[edit]Do the Drapers Company still own anything in Northern Ireland? I thought they had wound up whatever was left after land reform sometime around 1910/1920.--Rumping (talk) 13:23, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
- I believe The Honourable The Irish Society, which the Drapers Company is part of still own property in Northern Ireland, and even several properties in Draperstown, namely the plantation style buildings on a street where the local dentist, convenience shop and all are on. - That is more plausible as a tidying-up exercise, though I think the Drapers' Company now has no formal links with the Irish Society. [1] says even for the 17th century, although its members were nominated by the City of London the Society was, in effect, an autonomous body which had full authority to manage the affairs of the plantation and was legally accountable only to the Crown. I know the Drapers' gave a small grant towards some recent restoration in Draperstown, but most of the organisation and fund-raising effort was local and there was no suggestion it was maintaining its current property. If you can find any written evidence about the Irish Society in Draperstown, perhaps you could change the article. --Rumping (talk) 22:06, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- I might be wrong, not sure, i can't remember how i came across the information. Luckily my aunt is connected with the Ballinascreen Historical Society so it shouldn't be too hard to find out the truth of the matter. Mabuska (talk) 00:08, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Ballinascreen
[edit]Whilst i know that Ballinascreen is a common by-word for Draperstown to its local these days, however Ballinsacreen is a much larger area that is also a parish with a more ancient history than simply Draperstown. If i did an article on Ballinascreen, would it not be better to seperate Ballinascreen from its redirect link to Draperstown as not all of the history of Ballinsascreen affects Draperstown? I'm also thinking of seperating my Tobermore article and its parish of Kilcronaghan apart as the history of Kilcronaghan doesn't soley affect Tobermore. Mabuska (talk) 10:09, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
