[edit]I am Douglas MacLean's great-neice, by his marriage to Florence Barton. I knew him my entire life, through his illness when my mother, devoted to him, cared for him, until he passed. When I was 13 he took me to Hawaii and introduced me to his friends there, among them, Nani of Hilltop House. Uncle Douglas was very active in the Church of Religious Science and wrote often for the Science of Mind magazine. According to my memory, he told us that all or most of his films were destroyed in a fire - which is why so little is really known about him, compared to other silent film actors. I do recall him telling our family that he was the only male actor that Mary Pickford starred with in more than one film (I guess in the earlier days). Besides being a marvelous storyteller and philosopher (he would have us mesmerized for hours !), Uncle Douglas was a world traveler and talented in interior design.
