Requested move 27 January 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: No consensus, default to not moved. I do not see consensus for any particular, nor if the title disambiguation in question is sufficient or not. Since converting to a multi-page request, there also has been a lack of comments, and due to the multiple relistings already, I consider the RM as failed. – Per WP:SONGDAB since this article is the only subject about a song named "Dominoes" that has an article: See Domino (disambiguation)#Songs. (There is also an article named Dominos (song), but the inclusion or omission of the "e" in "Dominoes" should be a sufficient distinguisher per WP:SMALLDETAILS.) - Oppose. Although 1986's Dominoes (Robbie Nevil song) is the only song with a four-sentence stub bearing that exact title form, there are four WP:DABMENTION songs, including "Dominoes", by Lorde from 2021's chart-topping Solar Power (album). There may be also an argument for Dominos (song) → Dominos (Big Pink song) since there are two WP:DABMENTION songs titled "Dominos". —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 21:55, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- WP:SONGDAB is a well-established naming convention which states that "unless more than one article about songs of the same name exist, there is no need to disambiguate any further." 162 etc. (talk) 22:18, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Consensus regarding how WP:SONGDAB (and for that matter, the related WP:ALBUMDAB), both guidelines created as a result of WP:RFCs, go against this statement and basically supersede WP:DABMENTION to a point where some editors consider such requests (such as this one) uncontroversial. Steel1943 (talk) 22:22, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- Support, reluctantly. The WP:SMALLDETAILS argument has been upheld in similar discussions (see Talk:Catalog (album)), so Dominos (song) and Dominoes (song) are sufficiently disambiguated. 162 etc. (talk) 22:14, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @162 etc.:
"...reluctantly."
That's kind of where I'm at too: At this point, I figure it's better to value consistency over opinions I may hold in the matter that contradict the consistency. Steel1943 (talk) 22:24, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @162 etc.:
- Oppose and move Dominos (song) to Dominos (The Big Pink song). Small differences are not helpful, the the songs are not sufficiently disambiguated by minor spelling variations. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:49, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Note that hits on search engines head to “Dominoes”, a track from Paul McCartney 2018 album Egypt Station. In ictu oculi (talk)
- Oppose per WP:IAR; move Dominos (song) to Dominos (The Big Pink song) per User:In ictu oculi, and then redirect Dominos (song) and Dominoes (song) to Domino (disambiguation)#Songs. What is the plural of domino, anyway? — AjaxSmack 04:04, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose and rename per In ictu oculi and AjaxSmack. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:21, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support Dominoes and Domino's are different articles, it can be the same here. Peter James (talk) 20:21, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- Relister comment: The main question at play here appears to be: is the title of this song sufficiently disambiguated from the title of Dominos (song)? If consensus forms about that question, it will likely shape the consensus of this overall discussion. ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 20:54, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support per @162 etc.. See also WP:D. Mast303 (talk) 03:37, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: I have reformatted this into a multi-move request to add the RM banners to Dominos (song) and related pages since it is being discussed as well. – robertsky (talk) 16:53, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- ...Which means that any comments made before this time stamp occurred when "Dominoes (Robbie Nevil song) → Dominoes (song)" was listed by itself. Steel1943 (talk) 22:45, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- No need for relisting, there was no consensus, so this RM failed. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:59, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
