Dogecoin started with a supply limit of Ð100 billion, which would have been far more coins than the top digital currencies were then allowing. By mid-2015, the 100 billionth Dogecoin had been mined, with an additional Ð5 billion put into circulation every year thereafter. In February 2014, Palmer announced that the limit would be removed in an effort to create a consistent reduction of its inflation rate over time.[1]

Dogecoin started with an intended supply limit of Ð100 billion, which would have been far more coins than the top digital currencies were then allowing. By mid-2015, the 100 billionth Dogecoin had been mined, with an additional Ð5 billion put into circulation every year thereafter. In February 2014, Palmer announced that the limit would not be added in the codebase in an effort to create a consistent inflation rate over time.[2]
The current paragraph implies there was a limit in the core program. There was not. Palmer himself states it was a mulled change that was not considered.207.96.32.81 (talk) 12:43, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

The planned Department of Goverment Efficiency in the USA
[edit]Is it worth to mention in the part about Elon Musk and Dogecoin, that the planned US Department of Government Effiency, which will be led by Elon Musk, is abbreviated with D.O.G.E ? Add background information: specifically that Billy Markus set up the cryptocurrency in Portland, Oregon.

Misspelling in article - wrong language
[edit]Can someone on the english wiki look at this article, under the portion where Elon Musk is mentioned and fix the spelling in the final paragraph of the article fix the spelling from Noviembre to November. THis might be the correct spelling in Spanish, but it certainly isn’t in English. Lezgeek (talk) 23:12, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
Adding Bellscoin
[edit]I would highly suggest adding Bellscoin (see: https://bellscoin.com/) along with Litecoin and Luckycoin in the history section, it is clear, given by this article https://www.vice.com/en/article/dogecoins-founders-believe-in-the-power-of-meme-currencies/ that it was used for the creation of Dogecoin. I am not sure why this hasn't already been added, as the interview is already being sourced here. Pepepigman (talk) 10:26, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

This wiki is mentioning that Dogecoin takes its origin from Luckycoin. However, based on multiple source, it appears that it takes origin from Bellscoin. From an interview, Billy Markus, Dogecoin lead developer, said: https://www.vice.com/en/article/dogecoins-founders-believe-in-the-power-of-meme-currencies/
“I was tinkering with a coin that I had already made called ‘Bells,’ based off of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing, that wasn’t particularly successful,” Markus said. “I was mucking with it and I figured out how to change all the fonts to Comic Sans MS, then thought, ‘oh ok, this could be funny.’ So I had a mockup of the client with the Dogecoin picture Palmer made, and I just wanted to show that I wasn’t a n00b and I could actually make coins… This wasn’t some weird master plan that we had.”
From the Github repository, we can also see an evidence (BELLS logo) on Dogecoin source code, indicating that Dogecoin takes source from Bellscoin. https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/blob/8b09dc5d711bc0bedefc29c199a79ce39f691558/src/qt/res/icons/bitcoin.icns

- Not done: this edit request seems to be based on original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Please provide reliable sources that specifically state that Dogecoin is based on Bellscoin. Bowler the Carmine | talk 20:40, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
