I don't think that "The Incorruptable" is an epithet, which implies a very negative connotation, but rather a very favorable nickname for a politician (to which very few of them would likely legitimately be entitled) and that this thusly needs to be reworded. Japanese Occupation Record

[edit]

The description of DM's Japanese Occupation activities is unsubstantiated. See Nick Joaquin in "The Battle of the Books" for the criticism of DM's claim to WW2 guerrilla heroism. Also, see journalist Hernando Abaya's memoirs, "Memoirs of a Subversive" which claims DM was a collaborator. Gareon 07:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date proclamation moving recognition of Philippine independence day signed.

[edit]

Minor quibble but the copy of the proclamation for the moving of the date recognizing Philippine independence which I believe is Presidential Proclamation No. 28 that I read says May 12 1962 in the document. Is the June 1962 date when it became executory or were there other circumstances? Lambanog (talk) 10:21, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry it took me so long to see this -- I apparently neglected to watchlist this page. You're right. I've fixed this in the article and cited a supporting source which I had not seen until now. Thanks. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 03:30, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of "pulp" is this talking about?

[edit]

At the very end of the 'Socio-Economic Program' section, the word "pulp" is used with absolutely no indicators to what it's referring to. Is this supposed to be a reference to paper-making? Someone please fix the link to point to the appropriate pulp article if they know what this is supposed to mean. -- Fyrefly (talk) 21:49, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dunno; "pulp" was copied and pasted from the cited source. It looks like several paragraphs were WP:COPYPASTEd here. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 00:44, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you thing a "copy paste" tag is necessary? There are lots of paragraphs in this article that was copied from other sites like http://www.macapagal.com/dm2/biography/tributes.html and http://www.macapagal.com/dm2/. Usually, they are copied from the reference/s the author provided.--JL 09 q?c 01:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The "Publications" section could benefit from using reference-formating templates like {{cite book}}, and the isbn for those publications should be there.
  • There's not a valid justification for using the non-free image File:Dsdadomp.JPG.
  • The picture on section "Economy" is most likely a copyvio.
  • The picture on section "Sabah claim" is the repeated (but not cropped) infobox picture. That's annoying.
  • First reference is a dead link. --Damiens.rf 19:22, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The reference http://www.webcitation.org/5kwbNgZfa seems not to be working either.
  • There's at least one repeated link on the External Links section.
  • The last link, called "Images of Diosdado Macapagal" is a link to a personal website with a collection of copyright infringing pictures.
  • The most used reference, the one that backs up almost everything said on sections "Economy" and "Socio-economic program", is link to a tribute webpage. Too unreliable and non-neutral. --Damiens.rf 19:28, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll start shortly to remove infringing images and portions of text backed up by invalid sources. --Damiens.rf 16:03, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like most of the issues have been addressed. The writer hasn't really edited recently, so at this point it should be either passed or failed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:09, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  • It says "placed the claim in the back burner". The preposition is wrong, you don't place something *in* a back burner, you place it *on* a back burner. In any case, the phrase is jargon and obscure for some readers. I think the phrase should be removed and the text converted into plain english.
  • It says "Macapagal lost his first wife". Margaret Thatcher lost her son in the desert once but he was found again. Seriously, 'lost' is a euphemism (see Wikipedia:Words_to_avoid#Euphemisms). The article would be improved if it stated in plain English that she died.
  • It says "Legacy". The word 'legacy' means something that's been left. The section doesn't describe things that've been left, it describes things created afterwards.

It's been a month and the concerns haven't been addressed above, plus the many bare URLs as refs remain. As a result, I will unfortunately have to fail this article as a GAN. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 15:34, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Languages

[edit]

The article says that he wrote poetry in Spanish and Chinese. Knowledge of Spanish is no surprise for someone of his background, but where did he learn Chinese? His family does not appear to be of Chinese descent and the article does not mention any close association with Chinese speakers, study of Chinese, or residence in Chinese-speaking areas.Bill (talk) 23:41, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
