Hello. I'll be reviewing this article for Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GAN Backlog Drives/January 2022 --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:49, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for submitting this article to Good Article Nominations. Unfortunately, this article requires to be quickfailed per WP:GAFAIL as "It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria". Specifically, this article is a long way from passing Criteria #2 Verifiable with no original research. Here is an in-depth explanation of the verification issues that I have found taking a quick look through the article:
Verification issues
[edit]- Full paragraphs without citations: Breakthrough and early success 1st paragraph (6 sentences), Breakthrough and early success 2nd paragraph (4 sentences), Marvel Cinematic Universe and continued acclaim 1st paragraph (4 sentences)
- Partial paragraphs without citations: Early work 1st paragraph (2 sentences), Breakthrough and early success 3rd paragraph (2 sentences), Breakthrough and early success 4th paragraph (4 sentences), Worldwide recognition and critical acclaim 2nd paragraph (1 sentence), Worldwide recognition and critical acclaim 3rd paragraph (2 sentences), Marvel Cinematic Universe and continued acclaim 2nd paragraph (2 sentences)
I'm mostly concerned about the Breakthrough and early success section as all paragraphs have citations missing, especially with the 1st and 2 paragraphs having zero sources. On the other hand, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and continued acclaim 1st paragraph is the only one in that section with zero citations. With these 3 paragraphs alone, 14 sentences are uncited. If I were to include the other uncited parts of all sections, there is a total of 27 uncited sentences that I see. While I have not checked every source to determine whether there is original research or not, there are too much uncited sentences that sticks out. Therefore, I recommend working on this issue especially since Breakthrough and early success and Marvel Cinematic Universe and continued acclaim have the most combined uncited parts.
Unreliable sources
[edit]- I see that IMDB has been cited a lot in this article. Of these citations in the award section, 10 citations are to award pages at IMDB and 13 citations are to Brühl's IMDB page. Per WP:IMDB, this website is generally unreliable. As there are 23 IMDB citations in the award section, I think these should be replaced with more reliable sources. Having 20+ citations to a generally unreliable website seems too much to me, especially since this is a Biography of a Living Person per WP:BLPRS.
- Daniel Brühl News is a Tumblr post, making this a self-published source. Per WP:BLPSPS, self-published sources on Biographies of Living People by third party sources are not allowed. If this is content originally written by the German Information Centre Africa but published by a Tumblr user, the same text on the German Information Centre Africa would be more reliable. However, I don't see this content on their website. Therefore, these 4 usages of these citations must be replaced.
Overall
[edit]While I have not performed an in-depth review, I am very concerned that there are numerous uncited sentences and citations to unreliable sources. With these two issues, this article is a long way from passing criteria #2 Verifiable with no original research. Therefore, I'll have to quickfail this GAN. Taking a look at earlier versions of this article, full and partial uncited paragraphs were there before nomination. Thank you for helping expand this article, as it was only mentioned his films up to 2017. As you've done a lot of work to this article, I hope this review doesn't discourage you to help address these verification issues. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Good article criteria for the criteria that articles must pass. It can help you determine where areas need fixing. You can always resubmit this article to GAN at a later date once these issues are fixed. Thank you for submitting this article to GAN :) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:50, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
