Wow, nice find! I wish I'd seen that earlier -- that short bio and his full name would have saved me hours of research. Ah, well, the hunt was a fun one. MaxVeers 05:16, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article: fails

[edit]

It's a shame to fail this because what is written is written well and appears to be well-cited, but this is a matter of coverage and emphasis.

  • Why isn't there anything about his non-professional life? Childhood? Retirement? Did he have a wife? Kids?
  • Why is he an important person in general? People obviously liked him a great deal, but I don't see anything on his importance or academic impact -- did he develop new theories, did he break ground somewhere, or was he just a great guy? See WP:PROF.
  • Overdiscussion of the D. M. Smith Building. This article is a biography of the man, not an architectural and historical presentation of a building named after him. That information belongs at that building's article (I'm not suggesting you make one, just that that's where it would go). That this building was named after him probably bears mentioning, but specifics about the building are irrelevant.

More formally, I cannot promote this article because it does not meet WIAGA criteria 3(a) and 3(b). The almost fawningly positive portrayal of the subject in "Personality" also gives me concerns about NPOV. Dylan (talk) 06:13, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Military service?

[edit]

It occurs to me that the photo shows Smith in a military uniform, yet the article says nothing about Smith's (highly probably) military service. Can anyone find information about this? MaxVeers (talk) 04:53, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
