A large number of articles direct here. However, the links do not in general belong to Cyrillic script; many of them refer to a particular Cyrillic alphabet. — kwami (talk) 03:17, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it tries to unmix the wrong way. I suggest:

Remaining content pages are then: Cyrillic (disambiguation), Cyrillic script, List of Cyrillic alphabets (others are redirects). -DePiep (talk) 23:25, 21 December 2011 (UTC) clarify outcome -DePiep (talk) 23:28, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrillic script, yes. I suppose Cyrillic (disambiguation) would be okay. I wouldn't move Cyrillic alphabets, because it's not a list. — kwami (talk) 03:41, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, it is not a list. And adding the text "(disambiguation)" might not be needed, while the page is still the dab-page. So, with the names corrected this way, they are still (to be) the three content-pages.
Improved proposal. With improved names, the pages would be: Cyrillic, Cyrillic script, Cyrillic alphabets -DePiep (talk) 08:30, 22 December 2011 (UTC) improve clarity -DePiep (talk) 08:34, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On the new situation

[edit]

Now, not yet everything is as I expected. Please stay with me:

 1. Cyrillic script: OK, as expected
 2. Cyrillic alphabets OK, as expected
 3. Cyrillic alphabet wait, still the DAB page?
 4. Cyrillic Redirects to Cyrillic script (OK with me, we need another dab-page title then)

I expected (reasoned):

 • One page only for the pages Cyrillic alphabet/s, either singular of plural: they have the same meaning. I won´t look for a knife on the singular-plural thing.
 • Changing Cyrillic into Cyrillic script was OK (very good indeed, since it is the primary meaning in DAB thinking). But then we need the title Cyrillic (disambiguation) for the dab page (which is all correct in dab thinking).

(So, I dislike with reason: two pages Cyrillic alphabet/s. DAB-page name not being Cyrillic (disambiguation)). Other pages can be a reasonable Redirect. -DePiep (talk) 22:50, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that most links to Cyrillic alphabet actually intend Cyrillic script, but some of them do mean one of the Cyrillic alphabets. Once those are redirected, we can point the alphabet article wherever you like, but consider that most new links to 'Cyrillic alphabet' will still intend 'Cyrillic script', since most editors are not going to think of the difference. IMO, it would therefore be best if 'Cyrillic alphabet' were either the dab page or directed readers to the dab page. — kwami (talk) 03:07, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So first step we need is a sweep to edit all those links to the right page (change C. alphabet into C. script where appropriate). Could be done with AWB. Any preference for that alphabet/s title (the page with content), singular or plural? -DePiep (talk) 11:02, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I prefer the plural, because the phrase "Cyrillic alphabet" in the singular usually refers to the script. — kwami (talk) 11:57, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So, when something links to Cyrillic alphabet it is (most probably) to be edited into Cyrillic script, or else into a specific alphabet. I saw Cyrillic alphabet had over 1000 incoming links. First sweep I did was check all the pages with Infobox Writing system, they are easy to disambiguate (b/c it is descriptive). That hit some 20 pages. Will check some more templates. -DePiep (talk) 12:26, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Quite a job actually, 1000 pagews to check context manulally... We could also do: Cyrillic alphabet will be a Redirect to Cyrillic script, but we only edit those (few) that should be linked Cyrillic alphabets. -DePiep (talk) 12:40, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we could do that too. We'd still have to go through all 1000, but at least wouldn't have to wait for them all to save. — kwami (talk) 12:43, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(progress: replaced Cyrillic with Cyrillic. Remaining: 612. Most usage I saw is for Cyrillic spelling (of titles and names), and related to Greek or Latin script. Also a number of constructions like: Serbian Cyrillic. This might be of interest for an editor into these alphabets, but is not relevant any more for this disambiguation.) -DePiep (talk) 15:35, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(progress: checked for correct links Cyrillic alphabets to C. alphabets page. About a dozen or so.) -DePiep (talk) 15:45, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good progress. I'm not sure what you meant by your last comment; as a reader, I would expect the last to rd. to Serbian Cyrillic alphabet. — kwami (talk) 20:41, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. About my last edits here. Changing "Serbian Cyrillic" into "Serbian Cyrillic alphabet" is OK to me, but is not part of this disambiguation sweep. Your Serbian-specific edit is better, but not required. An editor in this knowledge (as you are) can make such an edit later on at ease and whenever liked. For me, I leave the pre-situation 1: to go ahead with the dab sweep and 2: because I don't know these subtilities. (A knowing editor like you might do AWB looking for serbian [[cyrillic etc. and see what can be improved/detailed). That is what I meant.
But oh wait, my real last edit (I should have read that ;-)). There I reported that I was doing a check with AWB: every page that links to Cyrillic alphabet (long AWB list) that has straight Cyrillic alphabets in it (else skip page from AWB start), and what to do with it. A filter to concentrate on specific pages & patterns. Reduces systematically the number of pages to take care of. -DePiep (talk) 23:27, 23 December 2011 (UTC);br-:[reply]

(progress: I checked on Cyrillic alphabet. Replaced with "C. script" mostly. Kept readability. Also kept: structures like "a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet". So I presumed: page "Cyrillic alphabet" is a Redirect to C. script. Some pages needed an edit to keep legibility. For sure, the next three pages are the same: C.script (content page), C. alphabet (Redirect to C.script) and C. (Redirect to C.script). Now 350 left todo (including the exceptions mentioned here).) -DePiep (talk) 01:04, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(progress. done: check on [[Cyrillic alpahabet| ) - note the pipe. Left: 256 to go, but including the Keeps mentioned above.) -DePiep (talk) 02:29, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done: at this moment, no Article page and no Template links to Cyrillic alphabet: [1]. -DePiep (talk) 13:05, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves request

[edit]

If I understand the targets well, I'd suggest we create the next final situation re Cyrillic:

Essentially, tasks are:

 1. The current dab page Cyrillic alphabet should be moved to Cyrillic (disambiguation),
 2. Then page Cyrillic alphabet should be edited into a Redirect to Cyrillic script

So, language specific alphabets are always a detailing from the Cyrillic script. An editor who wants to do so can always zoom in on the details and the right alphabet name, possibly via "Cyrillic alphabets". OTOH, the title "Cyrillic alphabet" is always to be disambiguated to "Cyrillic script". I see no overlap or terms to be disamiguated in these three terms.

Other edits needed:

-Hatnote re dab situation in Cyrillic script
-dab page check content (the word to dab now is "Cyrillic")

-DePiep (talk) 13:21, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Moved and edited as described -DePiep (talk) 12:35, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
