Text / Taxonomy diagram conflict
[edit]In the lede (for example) we have:
- "The Cuesta sea cow (Hydrodamalis cuestae) is . . . the direct ancestor of the Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas)." Later in the text this is cited to Marsh, Helene; O'Shea, Thomas J.; Reynolds III, John E. (2011) (our Reference 4, from which the relevant page of the work is directly linked).
However, the Relations within Sirenia taxonomic tree shows H. gigas as a sister species to the H. cuestae & H. spissa clade. This diagram is attributed to Hitoshi Furusawa 2004, (our Reference 1, which links directly to the paper concerned), and is also shown in the Hydrodamalis and Takikawa sea cow (H. spissa) articles) – but in the Steller's sea cow article a different diagram, showing H. cuestae ancestral to H.gigas and H. spissa, is also attributed to Furusawa 2004. My reading of Furusaea's paper and its cladogram suggests to me that the latter is the correct interpretation: i.e. H.cuestae is ancestral to the two sister species H. spissa and H.gigas.
I suggest therefore that the diagram in this and the other two above mentioned articles (Hydrodamalis and Takikawa sea cow) be modified or replaced accordingly. Does anyone have comments (or further and more recent sources) concerning this proposal? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.204.180.96 (talk) 02:34, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Well alright, sounds good. I revised the Steller's sea cow cladogram but that was after I created those other articles and I guess I forgot to go back and change them all. Good catch, User:Dunkleosteus77 |push to talk 02:48, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, Dunkleosteus77. Changing this sort of diagram isn't something I'd done before, so I wasn't relishing the prospect. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.204.180.96 (talk) 19:53, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
