Linux

Comment
I put in an edit moved for the Crysis article. It was much more about the engine rather than the game and should be here. I have not made the list format the same though. I will when I get to it, unless you do first :) ! DJ Barney 15:44, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Ambient maps
Why does "ambient maps" redirect you to ambient occlusion. It should direct you to "precomputed radiance transfer." That is what is used in crysis. pepebuslo 8:11, 9 June 2007 (GMT-5)
Date of Release/Development?

Alan Wake
As far as I know, Alan Wake is powered by Remedy Entertainment's home-built MAX-FX engine rather then CryENGINE2. Dunia is not a CryEngine successor, developer also said that CryEngine code is present in Dunia in very limited amount. The picture with history is wrong too. --II ARROWS (talk) 20:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Aion uses CryENGINE 1, not CryENGINE 2.

Speculation
Please don't let speculation and rumors end up in this article. I know a lot of little details and rumors will be flying around in the coming weeks and months, but please verify the accuracy of any information you add to this article and cite credible sources.
Also, if anyone who is good at formatting articles wants to go to town on this article, I would appreciate it. About this prose thing
All articles for game engines list their features. Its what you'd want to read about if you were interesting in a game engine, since that is what defines it. I undid another editors attempt to shorten the list, by deleting some of the things on it. It isn't that long, and it is easy enough to read, or if you aren't interested in that, you can easily scroll down and ignore it. Dream Focus 10:54, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

There is a tonne of new stuff in CryEngine3 that is not in CryEngine2. Yes it builds on top of CryEngine2 but it is not just CryEngine2 for consoles. Lose the Marketing Jargon
"Parametric skeletal animation". This is a marketing term, it has no technological value whatsoever to add "parametric". All skeletal animation systems are configurable via parameters unless someone DELIBERATELY makes it so they don't. I don't believe there's any system whatsoever one can find after hours of searching that wouldn't be ..'parametric'.

Ray Tracing
Is that part accurate or vandalism? I would actually love if the engine actually came with ray tracing capability of some kind (hopefully real-time ray tracing), but I can't seem to find any other such information on Google (well very little), so I'm not sure if this edit is legitimate, hopeful speculation, or vandalism; but I really hope CE3 does come with ray tracing (unless they're referring to the physics calculation method instead of the CG rendering method). 76.115.227.253 (talk) 08:54, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
you can do ray-tracing but the game isn't using ray-tracing to render whole scenes, it's just a part of the code which developers can use (ray-tracing full-scenes won't be done in real-time anytime soon)Markthemac (talk) 23:36, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Reading the text, you may want to add a few comment:
Differing from id Software based (BSP) editors that let the mapper manipulate geometry e.g. architecture on a per polygon basis. Sandbox only allows for direct terrain and vegetation manipulation. Any specific geometry (huts, items, walls, indoor areas, etc.) needs to be creates in an external modeling tool, like 3D Max.
This makes it a lot harder for your average mapper to add custom content. Plus requires modeling skill.
Sandbox was the first editor to feature real-time editing. This includes placement and testing of lighting (in almost real time), testing of AI, painting and editing of terrain, placement of vegetation and brushes (models).
Sandbox basically runs the Far Cry engine in the main 3D window in real time.
This real time component it fairly new to editing, also supported by DOOM 3's internal editor. Half-Life 2's editor Hammer e.g. has no real time components (well other than manipulation of geometry and item placement), but always requires lengthy compilations.

Section highlighting novel engine achievements removed?
The section highlighting industry changing innovations like photogrammetry and video-based facial motion capture were removed. They were cited with multiple talks, papers and courses at GDC and SIGGRAPH the largest international gaming and graphics conferences, and the papers were spanning many authors.
As CryEngine fades to memory, it's important to remember that Crytek had many industry firsts that are industry-wide standards today, like the first engine to ship with a normal map generation tool. Stop spoiling the article with an original research!
WTF is wrong with you? The 4th generation means there are three previous generations, whereas it's a completely new engine! Besides CryEngine 1-2-3 are indeed consecutive, based on CryEngine 1, whereas the new CryEngine is a brand new engine for f's sake. You are effing unbelievable. - On the wiki alone it is called (4th generation) this is due to the fact that there are more then one version info on this page. If we named it just CryEngine it would get confusing for readers.Cky2250 (talk) 20:56, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

I just could not create the article List of games using CryEngine because the content copypasted from this article contained some archive stuff, I was too pissed of to read through. Compatibility (CryEngine 3) With Wii U
Hello, I was just checking out some of the sources and noticed that most of the links that feature the Wii U as compatible (such as in the "CryEngine 3" and "Platform" section) , except the CryEngine (3.6-4) section. If that version was indeed compatible with the Wii U, there should be some better sources.SoulSnow (talk) 19:02, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
