Details about accomplices in the lead

[edit]

@NelsonLee20042020: I think your addition of a second, detailed, paragraph about the fate of Johnson's accomplices to the lead is not an improvement. The purpose of the lead section is to provide a summary overview oof the whole article. I thought the one paragraph lead as originally written, was pretty good. Adding a whole lot of detail about the commutation of the death sentences of just two accomplices to life imprisonment and saying what happened to a third is confusing and takes the emphasis away from what happened to Johnson. The lead's first paragraph only mentions two accomplices, not three, nor does it ever mention three other gang members mentioned in the body of the article. (And this is only a mention, no names or other details, so could be omitted.) Since the article deals with what happened to all six other gang members, the lead needs to briefly summarise what happened to all of them. However, this article is a biography of Corey Johnson, not one about all his accomplices, so there is no need to name any of them, or the outgoing president of the United States in the lead. This should only be done in the body of the article. I think the lead should have one paragraph dedicated to Johnson, and a (preferably shorter) second paragraph that discusses the fate of all six of the other gang members, including the two that had their death sentences commuted to life without parole. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 22:02, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cameron Dewe. Sorry, my bad. I shall go and shorten the second paragraph. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can consider removing it too if need to. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 23:15, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@NelsonLee20042020: I think the lead needs to mention what happened to the remaining gang members, since this is covered in the body of the article. It just needs to be a summary, not details. See WP:LEADFOLLOWSBODY. The lead already hints at what happened to "two members of his gang" So a second paragraph that says what happened to them is appropriate. It could say something like: "The other members of Johnson's gang were also convicted and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment, including the death penalty, (subsequently commuted to life), life without parole, and lesser terms for those who did not participate in the murders. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 05:47, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@NelsonLee20042020: Looks better now after you updated the lead. Thank you. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 22:47, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
