Article length

[edit]

@N1TH Music This article is extraordinarily long and more content is being added. Have you considered splitting out the election tables to a separate article? Or, if there's a potential notability problem, including a hide/show feature? Respect the amount of effort you've no doubt put in but the inclusion of some of the tables is questionable. For example, a table showing every bus stop in the commune isn't normally included in articles I've looked at for various places around the world - seems overly detailed and may be difficult to keep up to date. Also the minutiae of votes received by every single candidate in the municipal and national elections, surely the tables by party are sufficient? The inclusion of so many tables with no commentary is data rather than encyclopedic. Rupples (talk) 03:33, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I've considered on multiple occasions splitting the article, but I didn't think it was needed yet. As for the notability issue it's quite a grey area as there's no real precedent, the reason why the tables are so long and why there's so many candidates is simply because of the Luxembourgish voting system. The closest ward I could find to Contern for reference would be for example Hillrise in Islington borough council. If you look, all the candidates are listed for every single election. The only differences are the fact that election data for Contern is not only compiled on the municipal level but also the national and european and the fact that in Hillrise, there are only 3 seats and hence 3 candidates per party and only 4-5 parties contesting meanwhile in Contern during the national elections there are 21 seats in the centre constituency, so 21 candidates per party and 7-10 parties but in they eyes of Notability and policy, it's no different. Additionally I do plan on adding more running text regarding major changes to parties or specific candidates in vote share, contrasting the vote share with that of the entire centre constituency and discussing some campaign elements related to Contern and how they might have affected the previous things mentioned. However I am constrained by sources I have available and fear that my be classed as WP:SYNTH in some cases. Also I wanted to add all the election data before I started adding this text. Additionally, Hillside is literally just election tables, no running text and no other sections, the article is exclusively used for election results and its never seemed to be a problem. And I've reread on several occasions WP:INDISCRIMINATE AND WP:NOTDIRECTORY and in my eyes, none of what is written there applies here. All in all, I'd be glad to split the article to solve size concerns. N1TH Music (talk) 10:57, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying. Noticed very few election results articles at AfD so may not be a problem splitting them out. The difference between this article and Hillrise in Islington is that the latter is a ward and restricts itself to ward election results. Contern covers a much wider range of content, some of which is looking lost among all the election results tables - a presentation issue. It takes a lot of scrolling down to get to the latter sections of the article (if the Table of contents isn't clicked). Took a look at one of the sources, and this has a show/hide feature for the individual candidates,[1] - similar, would be an improvement here. Rupples (talk) 02:59, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rupples I’ve collapsed the by candidate tables, and in the coming weeks I’ll try adding running text about each election, I think that will do for now, and depending on what more gets added in the future and the scale of it, we can then discuss the potentiality of splitting it. Thanks. That's an improvement. Rupples (talk) 14:34, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
