Series 2 synopsis
[edit]I've just deleted this synopsis from Series 2. I have Series 2 on CD, and the description below (aside for one or two minor points) appears largely inaccurate:
- In this series, Megan has qualified as a social worker, and is now working at The Family Centre as a full-time member of staff. This elevated status doesn't stop Clare from patronising her.
- Clare's new student Ben is a sensitive boy who's forever on the verge of tears. He is always calling in sick with medically astounding symptoms, or making up increasingly implausible excuses not to come in.
- Irene is alone with her husband for the first time in 18 years after their son has left home, and faced with the prospect of actually talking to him, Irene channels her energies into socialising with the office team.
- Brian is desktop publishing his own literary magazine, which he hopes will deliver a broadside to the complacent literary establishment.
- Clare is still Clare.
Taking them bit by bit: it isn't made clear that Megan has qualified and working full time there. Claire does patronise her (but then again, is there anyone she doesn't patronise?
Ben is always on the verge of tears; however he is only in one episode, and I don't recall any mention of sick-note excuses.
Irene is single at the start, and marries Simon towards the end of the series. No mention about he son leaving home is made.
Brian is not publishing a magazine, but is the subject of a smear campaign from the editor of the school magazine.
Clare is indeed still Clare, which is accurate, but altogether glib. StephenBuxton (talk) 11:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Series 5
[edit]As this information isn't verifiable, I won't put it in the main article. However, I will post it here as some of you might be interested. I got an email from Harry Venning that said that "Series 5 is being broadcast in January 2009, assuming we get round to writing the bloody thing". Fingers crossed that he does...
I had asked about if he knew if Series 4 was going to be rebroadcast, or when it was going to be released on CD. Unfortunately he did not know about broadcast dates. As for the CD, BBC Audio are waiting to see how sales of the first three series go before making a decision.
Not exactly ground-breaking news worthy of inclusion in the main article, but I thought someone might like to know... ;-) StephenBuxton (talk) 06:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Harry Venning
[edit]Why does Harry Venning redirect here? And how come there's a link to Harry Venning on this page, which redirects me back to exactly the same place? Please fix, somebody...Safebreaker (talk) 09:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC) The BBC Radio Four comedy is not just written by Harry Venning, but also by David Ramsden. Tables
[edit]I've changed the episode lists over to a table format (which I copy and pasted from Cabin Pressure (radio series). At the moment there looks as if there is a lot of unnecessary whitespace, because there is a line (using the whole width of the page) for episode summaries. I intend to fill these in gradually, but I intend to do lots of other things which don't get done either...
If anyone else wants a go, the summary field is easy to spot and edit in the table code, just fill in something after "ShortSummary=".
There is a complete episode guide here if you want a memory-jogger, but don't just copy their text - it is copyrighted. Cheers, Squiddy | (squirt ink?) 16:48, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
Series 7
[edit]Received from the BBC 'Be in the audience' email list today...

End of the comic strip
[edit]Although this article is mainly about the radio series, it does start by mentioning the comic strip. Shouldn't there be some mention that The Guardian stopped running the strip last month? (It had been dropped from the print edition during lockdown but had been running online.) 2A00:23C6:1683:4D01:5DC1:1946:6B25:2FD4 (talk) 12:24, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
