Updates to Investment strategies section
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
Hello. Please add the following to the "Investment strategies" section which is the first section under the "Activities" heading. The following describe four of the five strategies listed in the first sentence (and only sentence) of the section.
- Commodities
- In 2018, Citadel hired about 20 scientists and analysts to make weather forecasts as part of their efforts to build out a broad commodities business to include futures and physical trades.[1]
- Equities
- The International Equities group is one of four long-short market neutral equities businesses at Citadel, also including Citadel Equities and the firm's main fund, Wellington.[2]
- Global fixed income
- Citadel's Global fixed income fund returned 10.9% in 2023.[3]
- Quantitative strategies
- Citadel founded Global Quantitative Strategies in 2012 to apply computer-based methodologies to investing.[4][5]

Pinging ForksForks who has been helpful on this page in the past. Thanks so much, Cduffymul (talk) 13:25, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please format this with the COI Edit request template so an interested editor can look at this. I don't feel comfortable reviewing this request. ForksForks (talk) 13:27, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done for now: I don't think having this in separate sections would be ideal per WP:PARAGRAPH, also this does sound somewhat promotional, if this could be rewritten perhaps into the history section in a more neutral encyclopaedic tone I'd be happy to take another look. Encoded Talk 💬 21:44, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Encoded, thanks for looking over my request. I have rewritten it as a paragraph, as you requested, in the order that corresponds with the leading sentence of the section. I still maintain that this content belongs in the "Investment strategies" subsection as it directly correlates to the leading sentence there:
- Citadel manages funds across five different investment strategies including equities, commodities, fixed income, quantitative strategies, and credit.[1] Citadel's equities strategy includes the International Equities group, one of four long-short market neutral equities businesses at Citadel, as well as Citadel Equities and the firm's main fund, Wellington.[2] In 2018, Citadel hired a group of about 20 scientists and analysts to make weather forecasts, which would broaden their commodities business to include future and physical trades.[3] In 2023, Citadel's Global fixed income fund returned 10.9%.[4] In 2012, Citadel founded Global Quantitative Strategies to apply computer-based methodologies to investing.[5][6] Thank you! - Not done: In what sense has this been
rewritten [...] in a more neutral tone
? Combining the promotional bullet points into a single promotional paragraph does not reduce the promotionalism. - Please do not waste volunteer time by resubmitting promotional material that has previously been rejected. Axad12 (talk) 08:08, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you. I had revised the request previously based on my understanding of the feedback I received, but with the additional feedback I've revisited the request again and hope this is now acceptable. Please add the following directly after the first line in the Investment strategies sub-heading of the Activities section:
- The equities strategy includes four long-short market neutral equities businesses.[1] The firm utilizes a team of about 20 scientists and analysts to make weather forecasts, which broaden their commodities business to include future and physical trades,[2] and quantitative strategies which apply computer-based methodologies to investing.[3][4]

Thanks again. Cduffymul (talk) 13:24, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: You haven't rewritten it you've just taken half of it out. This is substantially the same text as has previously been twice turned down.
- As per my previous response,
please do not waste volunteer time by resubmitting promotional material that has previously been rejected
. Axad12 (talk) 13:40, 22 October 2024 (UTC)- Thank you Axad12. My understanding of your concern was that some of the content might be considered promotional, which I tried to remove. Most of the remaining language stayed the same because I was doing my best to adhere to the sources. I do appreciate your time. Perhaps other editors will add their thoughts to this discussion as well. Cduffymul (talk) 15:06, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- In fairness, the first volunteer who looked at this request (not myself) said that you should re-word it in a more neutral tone. I have simply commented that in two subsequent attempts to get the material included in the article you haven't re-worded the material in any meaningful way, which is still basically as originally requested.
- In addition, your second attempt to install the material was apparently in bad faith as you simply ran the promotional bullet points into a single paragraph, with no change whatsoever to the text, and resubmitted it.
- I agree with the sentiments of the original responder.
- I'm not sure how many more volunteers you feel you need here. You will need at least 3, all of whom would need to feel the material was not promotional, to overturn the current 2-0 consensus.
- Why not just re-word the material in a less promotional way, as per the original response, and stop wasting volunteer time?
- You don't need to keep the wording the same to adhere to the sources, you just need to say the same thing but in a less promotional way. I'm not really sure how that can be made more clear. If you want to get the material into the article then that is all you need to do. Presumably it would be the work of 5 minutes. Axad12 (talk) 15:29, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- In addition, I note from your contribution history that you have had an exceptionally high percentage of your COI edit requests declined as being promotional by a number of volunteers across a number of different but related articles. Please note that there is no place for promotion on Wikipedia.
- My genuine advice to you is that if you wish to have material included on Wikipedia you must start trying to draft edit requests in a less promotional way. Axad12 (talk) 15:40, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Axad12. Thank you for your detailed response. I want to reassure you that I have sincerely been trying to create an acceptable, non-promotional edit that meets Wikipedia standards for NPOV, as I have done with all my requests over the past several years. In the interest of keeping this request as brief as possible, I have tried once again to suggest a non-promotional addition to the Citadel investment strategies section. If this is still unacceptable, I would appreciate if you could give me some guidance as to what exactly in the language is promotional, because I really do not see it that way.
- The firm's equity division operates four market-neutral, long-short portfolios.[1] The commodity trading division's group of scientists and analysts provide weather forecasting data, which influence decisions in both physical and futures markets.[2] The firm also uses computer-based quantitative methods to make investment decisions.[3][4]
