I think we should have a separate page for the city of Chittoor and for the district. Currently, both searches lead to the same page. --Madhu 16:01, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Spoken languages
User:Copperchloride added spoken languages as Tamil in this page, Is it correct? Any views?--Vin09 (talk) 06:14, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
This is correct. Chitoor itself is a tamil word (http://www.chittozp.appr.gov.in/) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dineshpkm (talk • contribs) 12:43, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- Please provide reference and you can add.--Vin09 (talk) 13:10, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- http://www.chittozp.appr.gov.in/ Here it is. This is from Andhra government website
- That was clearly copied from wiki, as indic scipts suggests. Please provide any other source and cite them in the page not simply pasting here. Thanks.--Vin09 (talk) 13:24, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- I am quite clear that AP government will not allow any erroneous material creeping into their website — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dineshpkm (talk • contribs) 09:02, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
In the above lines, a user has stated Chittoor itself is a tamil word, it doesnt necessarily mean tamil should be added as spoken language. ex: Chennai itself renamed after a telugu ruler and pre/post bifurcation of madras state, Telugu was/is also a widely spoken language of the city after Tamil. Even today there are good number of native speakers. But still, Is it allowed to add Telugu under spoken languages column of the template?? Obviously NO. Strange thing is , There is 'Native Language' column in the template of Chennai where it is 'Tamil' despite of the fact Telugu , also the native language of Madras/Chennai. Hosur and Krishnagiri district are other examples. So i do not support adding Tamil under Spoken Languages.LovSLif (talk) 09:24, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Tamil Language in Chittoor District
User:Copperchloride , Please do not add the irrelevant data in this article The citations provided by you are not from trustworthy/relevant sources. Please add back if you have got any proper official citation of the same. Tamil is not the widely spoken language of chittoor district. please refer the linguistic census data of the district from http://www.censusindia.gov.in/DigitalLibrary/Tables.aspx Looping in senior editor Vin09 (talk) to provide his inputs Thanks LovSLif (talk) 08:48, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- You can it like Telugu is official and in another sentence other languages spoken include Tamil, like in Chennai demographics page.--Vin09 (talk) 05:47, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
