I have rewritten the article to reflect the unique relationship between Salvador Dalí and his wife, Gala. Although the Castle is most well-known for its association with Dalí, it must have its own history prior to his purchase of it for his wife. Dalí certainly did not build it, and could not even visit without advance written permission from his wife. It is not clear what modifications to the Castle (if any) were made at her direction.
