HCB

[edit]

The text of the article states that "Until 2007 the dam was operated by Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa and jointly owned by Mozambique, with an 18% equity stake, and Portugal, which held the remaining 82% equity." This gives the impression that the dam is not operated by HCB after that date, today even. To the best of my understanding this is not the case: it is still operated by HCB but what changed was its share structure, HCB is now a Mozambique majority owned company. "only Egypt's Aswan dam is bigger in terms of surface water.". Lake volta is the largest man-made lake. So doesnt that fit in on the top above Lake Nasser created by Asswan dam? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SudhirP (talkcontribs) 05:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Cabora Bassa is an earlier misspelling of the name"

It's not misspelling it was the official name as result from an adaptation from the original "Kahoura-Bassa" from the CiNyungue language meaning "finish the job", (from the Portuguese version of the article) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.154.182.166 (talk) 02:06, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Cahora Bassa Dam in Mozambique. I worked there for about 6 months and, according to the native language, Nyungwe, the actual meaning of the word is "The work ends here". This originated from fisherman that worked their way up stream on the Zambezi River and found their path blocked by the immense natural wall that is the base for the actual dam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.148.89.93 (talk) 07:03, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
