Hello, I'm GhostRiver. I'll be reviewing this article against the good article criteria. By doing so, I am earning points for the WikiCup and the January 2025 GAN Backlog Drive. Although a quid pro quo review is not necessary, it is appreciated. You can see what open good article nominations I have here.

I will go through the article section by section checking it against the criteria. Once I have finished my review, I will place the article on hold, giving you seven days to respond. If you need more time, just reach out! While I'll always put the article on hold once it's ready for you to look at, you may start making changes before I complete my review. — GhostRiver 21:13, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and lede

[edit]
  • Split up first two sentences like so for better flow: Booches is a bar, restaurant, and pool hall on 9th Street in downtown Columbia, Missouri. Established in 1884, it is the oldest pool hall in Columbia.
  • Both USA Today and Sports Illustrated should be italicized as names of publications
  • The full address (100 S. Ninth St.) should be included in the infobox and in the body

Overview

[edit]
  • Is it 9th Street or Ninth Street? Consistency
  • "Booches is named after its founder, Paul Blucher "Booch" Venable, who was nicknamed "Booch""
  • The restaurant has gone through many owners in its time, being a male-only establishment until the 1970s. These two thoughts seem unrelated. The male-only bit seems to flow better with the racial segregation in the next sentence.
  • The "male-only until the 1970s" statement also does not line up with the source, which just says it "used to be gentlemen only" but doesn't give a timeline.
  • Being nitpicky: the lede specifies that the Boone County Historical Society inducted Booches into its HoF, but the society is not named in the body at all.
  • Given that it's now a bar, it feels important to note that Booches started serving alcohol in 1982 (CBT source)

[edit]
  • Ref 4 (Columbia Daily Tribune) is broken, use this link
  • Ref 11 is also broken, couldn't find a replacement link
  • Ref 16 is broken, try this [1]
  • Ref 16 (Rock M Nation) is missing an access date
  • "stltoday.com" in Ref 9 should be St. Louis Post-Dispatch

General comments

[edit]
  • No stability concerns, nominator has been heavily involved
  • Two relevant photos, both properly licensed
  • Earwig score looks good, all proper names / phrases

Putting this one on hold. Best of luck! — GhostRiver 21:42, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
