A puzzle and possible solution
[edit]The site of the synagogue is on Kibbutz Hefzibah, or would be if it wasn't now a national park. I assume that Encyclopedia Judaica indeed says it was discovered by members of Hefzibah, as now in the article. However, the original 1932 excavation report by Eleazar Sukenik says (p5) "At the end of December 1928, the members of the Beth Alpha settlement (situated on "Jewish National Fund" land) announced that in the course of digging a channel for conveying water to their fields from the er-Rihaniya spring they had come upon remnants of a building paved with mosaic." The same thing is written in contemporary newspapers eg here. So there is a disagreement over who made the discovery. Perhaps the solution is given by this letter (read the letter itself, which disagrees with the introduction above it). Here it says that a member of Beit Alpha made the discovery while engaged in work in Hefzibah and it was that Beit Alfa member who reported it to the authorities. Zerotalk 13:05, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Location
[edit]The synagogue is located on the property of the Hefziba (Hefzibah)community. It is next to Kibbutz Beit Alpha. Originally Beit Alpha and Kibbutz Hefziba were one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1702:D60:3100:3914:EA9F:3436:C917 (talk) 20:46, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
