City or Town?
[edit]Bamyan is actually a town/village, not really city. I think the title of this article should be changed accordingly. User:Beh-nam 22:00, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Bamyan is not a city and is not called Bamyan city. It is simply referred to as Bamyan. While the province is called Bamyan Province. Behnam 04:43, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Statue count
[edit]There appears to be some ambiguity near the bottom of the page in the description of the statues. It is common knowledge that the Taliban destroyed the two statues standing in their rock niches, however the article clearly refers to "three" statues with no sound description of the third - in fact, the article would seem to read as though there are two ("4000 feet apart"). I have read a recent account which refers to two teams of archeologists, one French and the other Japanese. These teams are apparently looking for the third statue, which may have been lost but is described as being 1000 feet long, and perhaps buried in the valley. I have linked to the news article in this post - it is, in fact, an article about the oil paintings in the caves. Rather than simply edit the article carelessly, I propose a discussion about the topic and perhaps a method of verifying this further information discovered. Thank you.

Editor or Brigand?
[edit]The New York Times recently highlighted the irresponsible actions of some editors of the Wikipedia.[1]
Even if the present editor is a learned writer he has no right to elbow out the views of other writers. Ranajit Pal’s view that Buddhism rose near Bamiyan, not Nepal[2] has been deleted due to the ignorance of the editor who should remember that the readers have as much right to true knowledge as the editor. Pal’s view has been published in a book (Non-Jonesian Indology and Alexander) which has been acclaimed in two respected review Journals [3]and [4] - and has also been accepted by learned scholars such as the late Prof. N. G. L. Hammond, (editor of the Cambridge Ancient History, The Oxford Classical Dictionary and discoverer of Vergina) Thomas McEvilley and many others. This is undemocratic and deplorable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mejda (talk • contribs) 06:03, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Bamyan, Afghanistan → Bamyan –
- Unnecessary disambiguation page on Bamyan; "Bamyan" should be the title of the city, not province, in the same way as Herat, Khost, Kunduz, Kabul, Kandahar, etc. are the titles used for the respective cities, not the provinces with these names. Khestwol (talk) 10:28, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support. Afghan provinces are all predisambiguated as "Foo Province", as you can see in Category:Provinces_of_Afghanistan. So this is the only article that requires the lemma "Bamyan". Bamyan Province got 6,824 page views in the last 90 days, Bamyan, Afghanistan got 11,996. Kauffner (talk) 05:25, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support. Just needs a hatnote. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:56, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support: Scrap the disambiguation page and use hatnotes. Skinsmoke (talk) 02:37, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Greece
[edit]In the introduction, the following sentence appears: " It was a place where East met West and its archaeology reveals a blend of Greek, Turkish, Persian, Chinese and Indian influence." Fine. But where in the actual article is there any mention of Greek influence, Alexander, etc? There really ought to be a discussion of ancient Greece and its interaction with Bamyan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isoruku (talk • contribs) 20:41, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Start of the history section
[edit]"The city of Bamyan was part of the Kushan Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era."
I think there is no need for that "Christian era". This sentence should be rephrased. What do you all think? Hitesh0630 (talk) 17:45, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Wrong titles for images
[edit]In the image collage, somehow the names do not correspond correctly with the photos. I have tried to edit, but don't know how to do this. Ho Bo Woods (talk) 19:33, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
