Image Placement Help

This article previously featured the following two images:

When I first began editing this article, these two images were just kinda mushed into the "History" section, with text swirling all around them in chunks of two to three words. Visually, it was a disaster.

Whomever added these images didn't format the article or paragraph or the images themselves properly - honestly, I also do not know the proper way to handle images, I mean, look at this comment, it's all fakakta.
