About Auls

[edit]

Hey, At first I want to say that Aul is a turkic and not a Slavic word,

The second thing wold be that no, Svanetian villages are not called Auls,

And third, Gunib is not the birthplace of Imam Shamil, he was born in Gymri (Gümri), Gunib is the place where he was captured.

please correct it. thanks, Sandro Shanidze, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.117.43.248 (talk) 19:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Awyl is a Kypchak Turkic word

[edit]

and means a mobile nomadic settlement with yurts, later became just rural settlement. Caucasian stony villages are not the best way to explain the word.
