This one has been on my radar as a review for a bit because it fits my specialty of trying to work with nominations heavy on Spanish-language sourcing and to assist some first-time nominators. Your copy is good but needs some tweaks, particularly to make it more idiomatic in English. Sources all come back clean. There is an issue with one image whose licensing status is not correct for Commons; I found another image like it while looking and had already nominated a similarly situated image for deletion a few months back. Copy changes
[edit]Lead
[edit]- Theatrically released in Argentina on 29 September 2022, and in the United Kingdom and United States on 21 October 2022 No need for the comma here as you are using DMY dates.
Plot
[edit]- Strassera receives several death threats, and is assigned a security detail. This comma is unneeded. See User:Sammi Brie/Commas in sentences (CinS)
- The trial is recorded on cameras and parts of it are broadcast around the world. I would say recorded "by cameras". And you need a comma after "cameras" (CinS)
- The judges move into deliberations and Strassera's team await to hear the outcome.
- Comma after "deliberations"
- "to hear" here is extraneous, just "await the outcome"
Characters
[edit]- The character is fictional, with his interventions in the film being taken from different real-life political operators. I hear the underlying Spanish here and don't think intervención translates to "intervention" in the context of a speech or statement. "Operators" would probably be best changed to "operatives" to be more idiomatic.
- Paula Ransenberg plays Susana, Strassera's secretary, This sentence ends in a comma when it should end in a period or semicolon.
- Additionally, Marcelo Pozzi appears as Jorge Rafael Videla, Jorge Gregorio as Orlando Ramón Agosti, Joselo Bella as Emilio Eduardo Massera, Sergio Sánchez as Jorge Isaac Anaya, Marcelo López as Basilio Lami Dozo, Carlos Ihler as Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri, Héctor Balcone as Roberto Eduardo Viola, and Jorge Varas as Armando Lambruschini, the members of the military junta. Change the last comma to a dash for readability.
Production
[edit]- Martín Rodriguez, journalist, writer, political analyst and a friend of director Santiago Mitre, originally suggested him to make a film about the Trial of the Juntas in 2016.
- Rodríguez is missing its accent on the I.
- "Suggested him" isn't idiomatic. Try "...originally gave Mitre the suggestion..."
- soley should be soley
- For parallelism with the other list entries, change the public's differing opinions to the public had differing opinions
- Kuschevatzky suggested his longtime friend actor Peter Lanzani to play Moreno Ocampo, whom Mitre cast in the role as he considered him "one of the most interesting actors of his generation."
- Put commas before actor and after Lanzani
- The "whom Mitre cast" is placed in such a way that it seems like it's talking about Moreno Ocampo. Fix this: To play Moreno Ocampo, Kuschevatzky suggested his longtime friend, actor Peter Lanzani, whom Mitre cast in the role as he considered him "one of the most interesting actors of his generation".
- For a sentence fragment, period outside of quotes (MOS:LOGICAL).
- "possibe" typo for "possible"
- Similarly, Laura Paredes initially tried to imitate Adriana Calvo's actual tone, but found it made the performance seem artificial and disconnected. Consider "tone of voice" on first use in this sentence instead of just "tone". Remove comma (CinS).
- "didn't" to "did not"
- The film's original title was just 1985, but was changed Remove comma (CinS)
- Pre-production took place entirely virtually and the crew met for the first time on set Comma after "virtually" (CinS)
- as well as in Rosario, Santa Fe for two days Comma after Santa Fe: MOS:GEOCOMMA
Reception
[edit]- "Justice is served in Argentina 1985... Add the comma in the work title that the Rotten Tomatoes review misses.
- Guillermo Courau from La Nación, in a five-star review, call Argentina... "called"
- ...Página 12 considered hmm, was opinó on your mind? This isn't the best phrasing in English, but you use it a bit here. Try "wrote that" or "expressed that"
- crowd-pleaser, a term Pablo O. Scholz from Clarín also used to refer to it. hmm. try crowd-pleaser, a label with which Pablo O. Scholz from Clarín concurred.
- The performances of the cast were another aspect that received praise. Very verbose. Try The cast performances also received praise.
- Scholz commended the authenticity of the performances, as Michael Ordoña that should be as did
- Ordoña described the Strassera's characterization remove "the"
- Scholz considered Mitre successfully try "For Scholz, Mitre successfully..."
- desacralize that's not a word in English (though the Spanish desacralizar is in source); try "demystify"
- the Andrés P. Estrada's editing another "the" not needed in English
- Lodge also considered Argentina, 1985 was try "believed that"
- Aguilar considered the film lacked in innovation and resulted "overly familiar", both visually and narratively. Try Aguilar thought the film lacking in innovation and the final product "overly familiar", visually and narratively.
- Add a caption to the Accolades table for accessibility purposes (MOS:DTAB)
Spot checks
[edit]- 7: Article in Perfil, an interview with Moreno Ocampo:
Me preguntaron sobre mi historia personal y tomaron algo que fue influyente, una parte de mi familia son militares. El padre de mi mamá fue general y los hermanos de ella, todos estudiaron en el colegio militar y fueron coroneles. Yo apreciaba y valoraba a los militares porque los que conocí fueron honestos, responsables y solidarios. Mi tío que era todo eso dejó de hablarme, creo que ese conflicto con mi familia militar fue lo que tomaron de mi historia personal para la película.
- 43:
“I spoke to as many as it was possible for me, because I felt that the film needed like to have this stronger human perspective. I spoke to the judges, to the people who gave testimony in the trial and of course to the people that were part of the prosecutorial team. It was very important for me for not only for knowing the facts, but to understand what they were feeling.” ... He met Ocampo, portrayed by Peter Lanzani in the film, many times, and Strassera’s son, who though young at the time, was enraptured by his father’s work. The supportive, engaged Strassera family is a main focus of the narrative.
Does another source have his name? - 47:
Suggestion after reading: add a bit here. which Llinás considered liberating because it opened the door to comedic segments. - 51:
I suppose the "ten weeks through September" and the "nearly 11 weeks" in this source are the same? - 70:
— "my first film as composer" - 91/92: Box Office Mojo data for the film in Spain. Opening listed as $96,133 in 59 theaters. The euro amount is in the Taquilla España page for its first week.
- 102:
Peter Lanzani gives an attractive and sympathetic performance
...The movie appears to have exercised a little licence in imagining the smart young team of legal researchers the Strassera assembled to roam the country looking for witnesses, their presence gives the film a lot of zip.
- 103:
Well-drawn scenes with his family at home show he’s as anxious and uncertain as any member of the public about the system he’s taking on, though when he’s called upon to square his shoulders and deliver a final indictment, he does so with a doughty conviction that makes for one of the most riveting, hair-raising scenes of speechifying in recent cinema.
- 107: Ariel nominations (the only pending award).

This template should NOT be applied to files uploaded after 1 March 2012. Files uploaded after this date which the template would apply to should be treated as other violations of the Commons:Licensing policy are.

[edit]- Political operator seems to be a term that exists in English, used for example at the Financial Times, the New Yorker, NPR and Reuters. A political operator is similar to a player (maybe it could even link there). "Political operative" makes it seem like simply an employee that works in the field of politics instead of a person with influence and contacts in politics. —El Millo (talk) 07:42, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
Apart from that, I think I've addressed all concerns. Those spot checks that have questions and suggestions in them were also addressed and added to the article. I still have to look into that image to see if it can qualify as fair-use. This was a very exhaustive and helpful review, all your suggestions for improvements really made it easier, and that's not something I usually see done by GA reviewers. You're also good at noticing what can be common mistakes for Spanish-speakers writing in English, though I'll just say for my personal pride that many of them were there because I missed them rather than because I actually thought they were correct ;). Thanks! —El Millo (talk) 08:25, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
- What I've gone ahead and done is commented out the multiple image with the photo and left an altered version without it in the article for now. Looks like everything was taken care of, so I will pass this. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 18:17, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
