Comment. I did some looking for in-universe spellings and the best I could find is from S11E07, "Eight Misbehavin" with a newspaper headline (which they did intentionally have misspellings in as jokes but this doesn't feel like that) on Frinkiac: NAHASAPEEMAPETILAN-TASTIC (there's also signing a contract but that is harder to read). There is a tiny, small chance that the original intended spelling was "-lan"... but yeah, effectively all sources uses the "-lon" spelling. Skynxnex (talk) 20:41, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have found out that "Nahasapeemapetilon" is an anagram of "Pahasanee Mapetilon", which appears to be the name of Jeff Martin's classmate[2]. The newly modified spelling from sources Skynxnex provided on Talk:The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilans is therefore not an anagram since there are no o's there. That is certainly one way of naming certain characters when they are first introduced. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 09:19, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think most people are not aware of his last name at all and I suspect it has seldom been mentioned in the show. When someone decided to talk about him in the title of a critical documentary film, they named it The Problem with Apu, not The Problem with Apu Nahasapeemapetil*n. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:31, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There was an RM that opposed Apu Nahasapeemapetilon -> Apu (The Simpsons) back in 2012 here. I'm not a major fan of it, but if there really is a spelling disagreement it's probably the best option. Nohomersryan (talk) 22:06, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Move. I agree that it isn't uncontroversial so it should be moved back to where it was, for now. I also am not a huge of of just Apu (The Simpsons) since almost all Simpsons characters who have articles who have last names mentioned in the show, include last names. I somewhat disagree with the idea that his last name is unknown. I welcome any future MR discussions if future evidence presents itself! Skynxnex (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The section about Apu's controversies is extremely bloated. It's longer than the character biography, by my count. I propose we trim away a good chunk of it - specifically the paragraphs related to the documentary and its fallout - and wanted to see if there were any objections beforehand. I assume you mean Apu Nahasapeemapetilon § Accusations of racial stereotyping? I think there's nothing particularly wrong about such a section being longer than the character biography. The things that occurred in the real world because of the character are probably more "encyclopedic" than the fictional elements. That said, it is probably a bit over detailed about the documentary, yeah. Selectively merging some to the docu article, if needed, and removing some excessive detail here would be fine.
