Plural

аппара́тчик, plural apparatchiki

While this is true that in Russian the plural for this word is as stated above, in English you write "apparatchiks". At least in New York Times they do. --Anthony Ivanoff 16:46, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What is the origin of the word?

-chik = diminutive

The "chik" at the end of the word puts it in a diminutive attributal form, somebody playing a small part in a bigger scheme of things.

I commented out this sentence. The suffix -chik in Russian can be indeed a diminutive suffix, but in this case it is just a suffix denoting profession, like -er in English. --Anthony Ivanoff 03:09, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
