WP:TOOSOON? Is this even notable?

[edit]

Does this fit the notability for a Wikipedia article? I feel iffy about using a YouTube video as the only source for an extremely rural and unincorporated village in Madagascar. I also feel a little off about the 'fair use' regulations on the image used. B3251 (talk) 04:00, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say so: Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features)#Settlements and administrative regions.
Yes, additional sources would be preferable.
Doesn't really matter if you "feel a little off" about using a non-free image, the rationale for using it is explained on the file's page. If you can find a better image that isn't non-free then feel free to replace it with that. Abandonee (talk) 16:22, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@B3251: Per WP:NGEO this has clear notability, and it's important to remember that the video essay's publisher is Vox, which is considered generally reliable. YouTube is merely the medium.
On the fair use image, it is a WP:FREER question and debatable. I remember that there were some large WP:FFD discussions over whether a fair-use image for the famously reclusive J.D. Salinger was appropriate while he was still alive—this feels similar. Ed [talk] [OMT] 05:50, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a clandestine settlement. It is, like many settlements and villages in Madagascar, very obscure, because Madagascar is an obscure place (especially the highlands, where people can be unaware of their neighbors 20 miles away). These people are not hiding. They're farming where the dirt is good. Zanahary (talk) 08:16, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Add Vox?

[edit]

I mean they basically discovered it. DoggsWiki (talk) 15:04, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vox? Anyone?

[edit]

They should definitely add vox. 158.62.96.38 (talk) 06:40, 18 March 2024 (UTC) This is the Vox video I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h42QVfrUVFw — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.151.159.32 (talk) 23:43, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's been listed in the references since this article was created: Anosibe Ambohiby#References. Ed [talk] [OMT] 04:47, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is, in fact, the only reference! Zanahary 21:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
