Proposed Merge to American Idol (Season 5)
[edit]- What is the point in having a seperate page about all of the contestants when they all pretty much have their own pages! This site is just getting messy with poor layout and only some pics. On the Season 5 page they have all of the semi-finalists listed, with relevent links. There is no need for all these external links on the page either. If you find a link relevent, please put it on the contestants page itself. What do you all think?
Girls and Boys/Women and Men
[edit]Notwithstanding my agreement with the sentiments expressed supra (and my consequent hope that the text of this page is largely deleted), I reverted the change of "girls" and "boys" to "women" and "men", respectively, in view of the usage, passim, of the former appellatives on the American Idol webpage. Whilst we can surely discuss whether we use the terms in a descriptive or prescriptive fashion here, on the resolution of which question would depend our choice of locution, I thought that prior to our making an election to use a more accurate, if less preferred, formulation, we ought at least to discuss the issue here. - I think the best argument is to watch re-plays of the shows where the Ladies perform one night and the men perform another. And listen to the host of the show refer to them as "Ladies" and "Guys" or "Men." But never "boys and girls." Batman2005 16:53, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- As I recall, it's always been "Boys" and "Girls" on the show. Randy, especially, seems fond of this term. -- MisterHand 17:01, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
