Merge
[edit]Normally I don't support Merging but this definately needs to be merged with the Dallas Cowboys. Make it a section in Dallas Cowboys. Redwolf24 04:49, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The Dallas Cowboys will always be America's Team. In case you don't think so, turn your TV on anywhere in the country in a city that does not have football and you can catch a Dallas game!
- I'd say that Dallas never was "America's Team". It's like Arby's slogan "Arby's roast beef is delicious". It's just a marketing ploy - Arby's slogan doesn't make their food any better, and Dallas's slogan doesn't make them "America's Team".--RLent 22:51, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have to agree there. The way this is the article is merely bait for vandalism such as what I cleaned up today. Matthardingu (talk) 19:02, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- A merge would be stupid as hell since all of the info in this article would be trashed and reduced to a one line "Dallas is so full of itself is calls their football team 'America's Team'". Why not merger all of wiki into one word that just says "Stuff" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.6.18 (talk) 14:48, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Article is fine
[edit]The article is fine where it is located. It's informative, based on facts and non-biased. Although it looks as if it was a recent target of vandalism (since corrected).--Cdman882 (talk) 03:00, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
braves?
[edit]didn't the braves call themselves america's team on TBS? Kingturtle 07:49, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. I know this comment was made five years ago, but this page does need to be refocused to include the Braves. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:28, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Recent content removal
[edit]As the Cowboys' film and other sports-related information keeps being deleted, I thought I'd post here to try to clear up some of the confusion. If information on America's Team Properties LLC in Minneapolis Minnesota is notable and worthy for inclusion, it should be inserted in the other uses section as a new section. Removing content about the Dallas Cowboys is not appropriate. Also, if the company is notable per WP:CORP a link to a newly created article (perhaps entitled America's Team Properties) can be included in a "See also" section or in small font at the top of this article. hoopydinkConas tá tú? 02:04, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Incorrect, Bias Information
[edit]This is absolutely ridiculous that the Cowboys are listed as America's team - while it was a name that is given to the Cowboys, there is more than ONE "America's Team" - it is a term applied to the current "in vogue" team - it is a term applied to MANY teams by official persons from the team. At this current point, the Saints are currently called "America's Team" - not the Cowboys - it is a temporary term - perhaps next year it could be the Titans or Chiefs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.237.109.194 (talk) 03:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC).
- Exactly, it is a temporary term used by many teams, except the Cowboys. For the Cowboys it has been a term used since 1979. It is recognized by all media outlets, often used by ESPN, CBS, Fox, Sports Illustrated, NFL Films, The NFL Network, etc. etc. When mentioning America's Team in any football circle, most everyone will recognize that you are speaking about the Cowboys, even if they are not a fan of the team. That is why it is not an "in vogue" term for them.
Comment from Panacolusa
[edit]I DO NOT AGREE There are a couple of problems with calling some team, any team, by a continental name. I do understand and would not have a problem if you call it the USA Team, or United States Team, but you see the word AMERICA is very badly used in this country, for AMERICA is one, the one continent that Christopher Columbus "discovered" back in 1492. And if you remember, Columbus never touched this great country on any of his three trips. We know that he visited a few islands in the Caribbean, at least on my history books they teach that.
AMERICA is ONE huge Continent, and includes all of Canada, Mexico and the rest of the Latin American countries, including Brazil. It is at least 25 continentally connected countries that comprise America, and not counting the several islands that are independent countries as well. And I dare say that in many those countries they do not know or care about a Football team like the Cowboys. If we want to go by popularity in the World and in America, you may agree that the national team of Brazil or Argentina should be called AMERICA'S TEAM. Argentina is ranked # 1 in the world by FIFA the Fédération Internationale de Football Association or International Football Federation Association; and Brazil is #2. And I am sure there would be some controversy as to why the sport played here in the USA is called Football, when the rest of the WORLD calls "FOOTBALL" the King of sports, which here is called "Soccer” But again that is a different theme.
I love the USA, I've lived here for over 35 years, and had a successful military career. I call the US my home, and had fought for it.
When you accept the term America to mean just the US of A, then you are saying that the other countries are not part of the Continent of America. I am sorry if most of you do not agree with this, but it is true. Sad to say that the name of the US is not used how it should. The UNITED STATES is the greatest country in the world, period!!!! There is no denying in that, but think about this; if you went to any country in the World most people would refer to the 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km²) of the United States as America, but even Wikipedia teaches what the US is in this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States
SO based on this, I totally disagree with the Cowboys being called "America's Team" They are NOT, that is an illusion that is rooted in their Ego. America’s Team corresponds to other teams. Get off your high horse and be humble. You don't hear Brazil calling themselves America's Team, and they could, they earned it, and the world knows it.
Exactly, the Cowboys are simply a Texan team, one of several. They don't have the right to call themselves America's team. Americans have not voted the Cowboys as their national team. This is pretentious and ignorant. It is insulting the other teams by appropriating the country's representation. Not one single team should pretend to be more American than the rest. This is a fascist way of acting. Does this make the other teams not-American? By the way, where is America's football national team? When and where does the US football team play other nation's teams? This is getting ridiculous.

- As you say yourself, if you ask most people on the planet what the word "America" refers to, they will tell you that it refers to the United States of America. While "America's Team" is nothing but a marketing slogan used by the Cowboys, it does not claim that the Cowbows are the team of the continents of North and South America. Using the term "America" to refer to the United States is standard practice, and in no way implies that the other countries are not part of the continents of North America or South America.--RLent (talk) 21:05, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

The Saints?
[edit]Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this nickname usually refer to the Cowboys? 72.133.253.180 (talk) 00:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes it is. I have fixed the several instances of vandalism. Thank you, Big Cowboy Kev (talk) 00:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Shouldn't the New York Yankees be Americas team because they are the greatest franchise in all of sports with 27 World Series championships and 40 AL Pennants.
