Article creation

[edit]

Wikipedia allows stub articles to exist. Such as Canterbury Glass, Adele One Night Only etc, where the notability is already there, irrespective of whether the work is released or not. Hence I believe All Too Well should not be blanked/redirected. Ronherry (talk) 06:14, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, we are only six days away from the release. Articles for widely covered albums/films usually exist around this time. Ronherry (talk) 06:21, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done @Ronherry: Article looks good from a cursory glance. However, cast section looks pretty thin to justify a section. Since you're aiming for GA, Cast section can be presented in another way. See the infobox listing the cast and characters in the Barbarella article? I'd like you to use the same infobox in this article but place it in Plot section. I'll get back to you on my thoughts review proper. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 05:45, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Prose review

Lead

[edit]
  • It opened to highly positive reviews from contemporary critics, who commended Swift's direction as a debut filmmaker; the cinematography, production design, and the performances of Sink and O'Brien were also subjects of praise. Per article, It enjoyed wide critical acclaim, with particular praise to Swift's direction as a debut filmmaker as well as its acting, drama, and production values.

Plot

[edit]
  • "a 1989 Mercedes-Benz S-class car" Relevance?
1989 is a Swift album; should I mention it there? ℛonherry 10:58, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like an easter egg reference to me. Only references to relevant source materials should be included; I don't think this is one of them. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 12:42, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conception and production

[edit]
  • Swift has stated via her social media accounts that All Too Well: The Short Film was shot on 35 mm film by Japanese-Korean-British cinematographer Rina Yang. This should be in past tense
  • Swift cited "Barbara Stanwyck films, particularly 1937's Stella Dallas," John Cassavetes, and Noah Baumbach, especially his film Marriage Story (2019), as artistic influences for All Too Well: The Short Film. -> Swift cited "Barbara Stanwyck films, particularly 1937's Stella Dallas", as artistic influences upon her film in addition to those of John Cassavetes and Noah Baumbach, especially his drama film Marriage Story (2019).
  • noting that she is a fan of O'Brien's works We're chronicling a past event, so the verb should be was
  • I like working with friends or people who I think would be excited about working with me. I've never made a short film before. I needed to reach out to people who would maybe believe that I was capable with it. I'm just blown away by what [Sink and O'Brien] did—they went out and left it all on the field This is long enough to be block quoted. Either render it as such or paraphrase. Your call.
  • everything was planned to be to music. But then when we played out that scene [with dialogue]. [Swift] immediately marched over and was just like, 'This is it. I’m going to play this in the video.' The confidence to just identify that in the moment on set and take in what we were bringing to it [shows how] she’s so sound with relationships and her instincts. Ditto

Release and promotion

[edit]
  • The film is about "an effervescent, curious young woman who ends up completely out of her depth", stated Swift. She described the film as an expression of her gratitude to her fans for their reception to the song "All Too Well" over the years. it
  • with an audience that included Swift, Sink, O'Brien, journalists, film and music critics, and handpicked fans. -> with handpicked fans among those who attended. World premieres are customarily attended by filmmakers, stars, and critics, something not unique to this particular movie.
  • In an interview with American director Mike Mills, Swift discussed her filmmaking process, while Sink and O'Brien talked about their characters in the film. Paula Weinstein, the chief content officer of the festival, said in a statement regarding Swift: "We are very excited and enthusiastic to present a compelling slate of Reunions, Master Classes and Talks from one of the most leading and well-known storytellers from all across art, comedy, music, television and film." Remove undue content; fact of the matter is that filmmakers and their actors inevitably discuss their works right after the screening, and I see little educational value in that Paula Weinstein remarks
  • Swift was interviewed by the festival's CEO, Cameron Bailey, regarding "[her] filmmaking and visual aspects of her music." Ditto
  • Swift took part in the Variety Directors on Directors series opposite British-Irish filmmaker Martin McDonagh in December 2022. Ramin Setoodeh, co-editor-in-chief of the publication, stated, "Since Taylor Swift premiered her short film All Too Well last winter in New York, Variety has been impressed with her vision as a director. I think we can move this to Legacy section as the second sentence of the last paragraph, since it occurred the day Searchlight announced a feature adaptation.
  • A video of behind the scenes from the short film was also released on December 8.

Commercial performance

  • garnering Swift's her eighth number-one song in the US

Critic reviews

[edit]
  • Because MOS:FILMCRITICS prefer reviews from trade publications, the reviews from Steve Pulaski, Indie Short Mag, and CJ Sheu will have to go

@Ronherry: Gonna put the article on hold as I verify the article against the sources. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 08:10, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nineteen Ninety-Four guy:  Done all. ℛonherry 17:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Be advise that I've tagged one claim in Legacy as unsourced. In the meantime, bear with me as I continue to review the article against the "verifiable" criterion. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 18:26, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum

  • Quotes from reviews written by Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, and Collider don't actually critique the film but merely highlight its premise, something that's already described elsewhere. Please cite actual movie reviews from critics, not from journalists who were merely covering the movie's premiere.
  • Delink commonly known words "steroids", "screenplay", "writing", and "pacing"
  • Italicize Vogue and Collider
