Changes to history

The spelling of the early name is not a typo but a variation and there is room for a reference to both. Please be careful when adding new information that the old citations still back up the original facts cited. Consider reverting and starting over. For the name I was going off both the official City of Albany website as well as Oregon Geographic Names (the whole book isn't online but their index is: [1]) which both list the recognized name of the settlement as Takenah. Reactive Metals

Albany is the reactive metals capital, not the rare metals capital. Column IVA on the periodic table--titanium, zirconium and hafnium--consists of reactive metals, so named because they have a strong affinity in the molten state with atmospheric gases. The crystal meth problem

I was born in Albany in 1982, grew up there and have since moved. In 1992, 1993 and 1996 the town was the crystal meth capitol of the United States, and it has continuously been the crystal meth capitol of Oregon. Although Albany has been deemed the crystal meth capitol of the United States, it is not the only drug of choice that is running aggressively through our community. This is sad and tragic that a community such as Albany is being infected so to speak by the dangerous and unpredictability of the drug lifestyle. Mayor

A quick look at the city's website and a google search reveal that he wasn't mayor of Albany in '04:

Should the population be reverted back to what is was in 2000 when at:

you can track a city and see the US Census estimates for the town in the most current information they have. I know it is an estimate but it is based off the date they have collected. Albany Timber Carnival

Anyone interested in logging history? Where is Rvannatta? I believe this used to be a very big event in Oregon, but I think it has fallen on hard times recently and perhaps wasn't held for a couple years? Some research is in order so we can either make a full article or at least a redirect to an informative paragraph in this article. At one point I had looked at "Oregon" in several "real" encyclopedias and I remember that one (Britannica?) made special mention of how Oregon was a hotbed of timber carnivals! Hey Katr67, Yeah I live in albany and know a bit about the timber carnival. I will see what I can dig up for you about it. I know it had stopped running for about 5 years or so but has gone the last few years. It used to be a really big even and isn't nearly as big as it used to be but with last years having done so well they are planning to bring back alot of the stiff that was lost. They are hoping to have it back up to speed in a few years. I can't really site that from anywhere just from myself having talked to the people who ran it last year. I will see if I can get in touch with them and get more info but I am not sure how to site it if not from online so that might be a topic for you to help me with if I have to cross that bridge.

I'll get back to you in a week or so with what I have gotten and get things started.

Hydroelectric

I was thinking that somewhat it should mentions albanys hydroelectric plant. I figured I wouldnt post it as I don't know much about it. It is an older plant so I guess some about it history should be mentioned. But here is an article about the reopening of it. Furthering the Details

The Page for Albany has grown over the last 3 years i have been watching it and it is finally starting to give a good story of what Albany is like. As I see it now the big push if for more detail of all topics. People should be able to read this article and get a good idea of what Albany is like. Wikipedia is becoming more and more a source that people go to in order to learn about places and things they don't know about. This article teases people with some detail but not enough to really know the town.

What more can we say about Albany that people don't get from this? These details need to be filled in.

How about a weather chart if someone can dig one up? That will give a better idea of the weather How about more pictured of the town to include this weather or areas and events of interest? Could we be more detailed in the government section like listing the city councle memebers there? Is there more recreation and entertainment, maybe enough to make its own section? What do we do here in town for entertainment? What about the Religion here in town, could that be of interest to people learning about Albany? Utilities is always something we could talk about. What are the ones provided by the city and what companies serve utilities here in Albany? Should anything about Topography be mentioned? What else can be said about our economy, there has to be more then the little mentioned right? Are there any things to mention about the Environment, maybe issues with it or efforts to protect it? What about crime rates of our fair city or changes in it since the past? does everyone in Albany speak the english language or is there more then one here? Do we have any private schools here?

While additions are great, things need to be verifiable, and that information needs to come from Wikipedia defined reliable sources. For a good example of this, and in general what should go into an article on a city, see Wilsonville, Oregon - "Good Article" class city and Hillsboro, Oregon - a "Featured Article" class city. I added verifiable sources to everything that had a tag for citation. This should get everything up to a decent standard now. I am looking at adding a Rankings and recognition section like Corvallis has. I know Albany was recently awarded the bronze designation in the 2010 Bicycle-Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. I will be looking to come up with a few more before I add it. Please, for the love of god do not mimic the Corvallis article. If you want to mimic Oregon articles, do so from the best ones, which are: Cave Junction, Wilsonville, and Hillsboro. Each has been peer reviewed at least once, whereas some editors have tried to get the Corvallis editors to clean that mess up, specifically the "Rankings and recognition" section that should not exist. As in look at the articles I pointed to, and look at other Featured Articles (the highest ranking) such as Seattle and you will not find that type of section, and that is not a coincidence, it is because we do not let the Chamber of Commerce write the article. I actually had no plans to follow anything like what the corvallis one was. I guess that is where the idea came from but I was planning more of things that would be more national recognitions and put it more in an article format then a list but if you see it as a bad direction I'll just drop the idea completely. Don't want to go in a direction that would draw away from the article. Guess I should have been more specific then just saying something like the corvallis one. I would not have a section of "Rankings and recognition". Instead, integrate that type of info throughout the article. For instance, above you mention the bicycle friendly bit, so add that to the transportation section. I would not add the other item you had listed about Tec Labs, as that should go into the article about them. As a side note, on talk pages generally you would not go back in and edit previous items, such as removing the items as you did. If you need a place to keep notes for yourself, you can start a "sandbox" for yourself as a user sub page, such as User:MathewDill/sandbox, or use your existing user page. I'll intigrate it in to the article and any other I find throughout where they best fit. I will avoid the ones that aren't a direct relation to the city itself such as the TechLab thing and focus on one like the bicycle friendly type. I will also make sure not to add things for personal notes on here an do it where you suggested. I hope to eventually get the things that are lists turned over to article formate here soon as well. Changing of Status

This article has been rated as Start-Class on the project's quality scale. I believe at this point with added referances and additional information over the past few years since being given this rating it is approching a point that it should be reviewed to see if it is ready to make the move to a C-Class article. I will continue to make improvements and add additional information in hopes of seeing it as a top level article. It's start-class now, and more citations are needed before it makes the next step to C-class. Some of them are easy- for instance, citing proof that all four residents live/have lived in Albany. The history of Albany from 1870ish-1970 needs to be written or expanded with citations too. tedder (talk) 22:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Well I am up from 16 citations on 31 May 2010 to 46 today. not a bad start I'll keep loking around to see what else I can add in this. I also added a bit to the history section about the railway history in Albany along with the history of the canel that runs through town.

Radio

To be consistent, shouldn't you also identify 107.9 FM by it's call letters (KHPE)? Adding the tagline (HOPE-FM) would also be appropriate.

You mention 5 AM radio stations, but only list 4. 920 KSHO is mentioned twice. I thought KSHO was more of an "Adult Standards" station, rather than an "Oldies" station, which would connotate 50s to 70s rock music. 78.26 (talk) 22:26, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
