Phocaeans
[edit]The article seems to fudge a little saying the Phocaeans fled to the mountains etc etc. That is not what Herodotus says. The Phocaeans abandoned the city for Italy in their 20 remaining crippled ships and the Etruscans and Carthaginians landed the prisoners and executed the lot, where they were left unburied until the oracle commanded a proper funeral. Presumably if they could have got hold of any Phocaean residents they would have executed them too, as they weren't happy to have Phocaeans around and were notoriously not too merciful. Herodotus does not say when the Etruscans got there or who occupied the abandoned city. So, the section needs some reinvestigation and rewriting. Bear with me as I develop this, not too long I hope.Dave (talk) 14:01, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]I have just read this page and its corrisponding page on WP:FR, and I am of the opinion that the information (while not presented in the same format) is equally available and therefore have removed the "Please expand this article with text translated from the corresponding article in French Wikipedia. (December 2008)" note. --Île_flottante~Floating island (talk) 16:37, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
