Translation?
[edit]"Akina Mama wa Afrika" actually means just "Women of Africa" or "African Women".
The notion of "solidarity" is not expressed in the Swahili words. (I guess that a slightly feminist reading always understands solidarity connected to women?) Greetings from sw-wikipedia Kipala (talk) 09:07, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- That's really interesting, Kipala! I was referencing the Guardian article and elsewhere that mentions "solidarity among African women", but perhaps it was quite simply so new in the mid-80s to have an organisation solely for and by African women, that a sense of solidarity was both intended and assumed? I'll leave the actual Swahili translation to you! :-) Anasuyas (talk) 16:54, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
