This article was created using Aka-Bo language as a base. (Taivo (talk) 16:25, 13 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Extinct? According to the link I am listing below the language is not completely extinct. If there are no objections I am going to change the article to "almost extinct" --CooliLowe (talk) 13:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What link? Aka-Jeru is extinct according to every source I've ever seen. It's use as a substrate/superstrae for a creole does not make it "not extinct". (Taivo (talk) 14:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

This article in the Guardian lists it as highly endangered, but not extinct. Endangered languages Taivo - what sources are you referring to?

Ethnologue, which is the most highly respected and reliable source for speaker numbers internationally. I don't know where Austin got his numbers, but it seems that he is actually considering the number of speakers of the Great Andamanese Creole, which has Jeru as a primary substrate, and not Jeru itself. Mixed Great Andamanese split

[edit]

Another editor has been proposed a split for the Mixed Great Andamanese creole language. I personally believe there is enough content to separate the language and some people have gotten confused with the Aka-Jeru language when referencing the Mixed Great Andamanese. If you do or don't support this split, please say below. Thank You. Spino-Soar-Us (talk) 04:41, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MGA is generally covered as a separate topic. However, AFAICT it's not clear to what extent it was an actual language, for example whether it had a native-speaking population. If it didn't, it wasn't a creole. Also, we don't generally speak of creoles for koinés of the dialects of a single language that maintain complex grammar. It might be better to start an article on the Northern Andamanese language and include it there.
Per recent sources, I moved the article to 'Akajeru dialect'. — kwami (talk) 07:15, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No other comments, so I went ahead and split it. — kwami (talk) 04:19, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
